I still think it's ridiculous that Hawaii would host a #2 vs. #3 match, and not stream it. Tonight's PSU vs #1 Hawaii match (at 12am EST) will be on ESPN+ though. Hoping for our guys to stay awake.

I paid $15 to one person on the other forum for an IG live of the match. It was pretty worth it (for me). They said the money will be donated to UH. Some match notes: Michal was pretty great at the start of the match and was the main point scorer throughout. He was getting targeted by UCLA serves though; he struggled in that department. Middles we’re effective but only had 22 swings (19% of total swings). Owen was hitting above .800 before the last set but only had 7 swings. Blocking and serve pressure was very good in the sets we won. We looked absolutely immaculate in that 3rd set. We hit above .700 as a team. Brett and Fish started pretty slow (particularly in the sets we lost). Brett got better later in the match with clutch aces and a stuff on David but Fish only managed 1 kill and became a serving sub (an effective one) for Johnny later in the sets. 5th set was close til 8-8 when UCLA started blocking almost everything. It was a pretty good match despite the loss (west coasters will say it’s a definitive win and that PSU is overrated) . Excited for tonight (I guess tomorrow? ).

Merks passing and serve receive is getting even better as this game goes on! Great to see this battle between these top teams.

Amazing win! Realistically could’ve been a sweep since in that first set, Hawaii was gifted 15 errors (11SE and 4AE). But great turnaround especially for Fish and the reception team! Passing was immaculate.
This team beat the lineup that won the NCAA championship last year(except for Hogland who was subbed out mid 2nd set). Excited for the rest of season.
Credit to Hawai’i for having such an electric atmosphere that really can’t be match by any other MVB program.

Fun fact: Hawaii, the 2x reigning NCAA Champions, finally has their 25-match win streak (and 29-match home win streak) ended with the loss to Penn State.
Another fun fact: Hawaii's lineup in their loss to Penn State was the same lineup that won the NCAA Championship last season.

I know, two men, but they were very good, I thought.

I was watching a Penn State Women's Gymnastics meet (via BTN Plus) a few weeks ago, and the guy commenting said, "I think by the crowd's reaction the gymnast will get a high score."

Penn State Men's Volleyball finishes their California/Hawaii Tour 4-1.
- 3-0 win over Concordia - 3-2 win over #6 UC Irvine - 2-3 loss to #2 UCLA (though we have a 3-1 win over UCLA last month) - 3-1 win over #1 Hawaii - 3-0 win over RV Purdue Fort Wayne
With the loss to UCLA, I doubt we'll bump up to #1 in next week's rankings... but depending on how #1 Hawaii vs. #2 UCLA goes tomorrow, we may very well become #2.

I think that if UCLA wins, they’re #1. If Hawaii wins, it would depend on how they win. I think if Hawaii wins a 3-1, or 3-2 match, we get a shot at #1 (maybe not #1 but definitely #1 votes). If Hawaii sweeps, they deserve #1 and benefit of doubt since they retain their championship-winning lineup. It’s still wild to me that if we started the season healthy and was healthy through this point, we could’ve still been undefeated (but of course those are just my fantasies talking).

PSU goes up to #2 and receives 8 first place votes!
Ryan Merk is recognized as the National Libero of the week by Off the Block and was recognized as the libero of the week by Noezybuckets.
Toby Ezeonu is recognized as the National Middle Blocker of the week by OTB and is the EIVA defensive player of the week.
The other forum top 25 also recognized Penn State as #1.
