Weatherington hit .571 and added seven blocks, while Holland hit .462 and also had seven blocks. Markley hit .357. BIG TEN STANDINGS• Penn State currently sits sixth in the Big Ten standings, just one match behind Purdue for fifth. • Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Ohio State are in a three-way tie for first place at 12-1. PROGRAM WIN MILESTONE AHEAD• Penn State is just one win away from reaching 1,400 victories in program history. • The Lions would become just the second NCAA Division I team to reach the milestone.

If they played each other twice per season, starting in 1977, then even if Penn State did, as stated, win every match after 1982, it could still work, as shown in this totally invented season-by-season invented results from 1977 to 1982: 1977 -- 0-2 1978 - 0-2 1979 - 0-2 1980 - 1-1 1981 - 1-1 1982 - 1-1 Granted, it seems highly unlikely that PSU went 0-6 against Rutgers from 1977-1979 (as assumed in this hypothetical). But I suppose it's possible. Plus, there could have been tournament losses sprinkled in there too, to get to the total of 9 losses. Having said all that, the 40-9 record, with the last loss coming in 1982, seems like there might be an error in there somewhere. But search as I might, I can't find any season results for Penn State in the 1970s or 1980s, or early 1990s.
