FWIW, Massey Ratings only gave us a 38% chance of winning tonight That's weird. Emily Ehman was saying that the stats on these two teams are very close. Maybe because PUR beat MINN 3-0.

Tonight's win bumps us up to 21 in the RPI - We were 23 before the match.
Purdue falls 1 spot from 22 to 23.

I wouldn't think that home court advantage would be that much, would it? Ah, who knows. Some have said that Massey isn't that great a predictor. I wonder what Pablo predicted for this match. Does Pable do that?

So,not counting the MINN and WISC matches, PSU needs to win 1 of the two "winnable" matches left; Northwestern away and Purdue at home. The NW match may not be that hard, as unfortunately NW's second string setter is out with a head injury (hope she will be okay; from what I heard, it could be pretty bad). This is after their first string setter went out something like a month ago. Really bad luck for a team that when healthy has looked pretty good. So the NW hitters are adjusting to their 3rd setter during the season. Wow. Pretty grim. I'm not saying the PSU can't beat MINN or WISC, just that it's unlikely. They, like NEB, are always up for PSU. So this is the thing-the team has been wildly inconsistent. Compare the performance against Indiana with this match-really two different teams. If the team could play like they did tonight, they would win both "winnable" matches and take one of the others. But, this year, they have struggled to play at their best for whole matches, much less one night to the next.

Call confirmed. 2-2. Go figure. Ball went from PUR block and brushed the antennae before it hit/didn't hit Katie (Just watched the match on replay this morning - superb win!!!!!!!!!!)

There is a tendency to be in awe of MINN because of their reputation of recent years. We just need to compete against the 6 players on the other side of the net and not be thinking how good previous MINN teams have been. Besides our history is greater than theirs - let them be in awe of us!!

Massey's methodology isn't totally public, but I would guess it builds in some degree of recency bias -- our big wins had been in the pre-B1G conference part of the season. Plus, home court advantage is definitely part of it. Before this match Massey gave us something like a 54% chance of beating Purdue at Rec Hall.

They probably have the best outsides in the league but struggle with passing. I agree that PSU has a shot at home, but would place it at about 40%.

Here’s a recap of Penn State’s impressive 3-1 win over Purdue last night in West Lafayette. Kash Williams had one of her best matches of the season with 22 kills in the win, which saw Penn State’s defense do a nice job of limiting Purdue freshman Eva Hudson. dignittanyvolleyball.com/penn-state-volleyball-beats-purdue-3-1/
