I’m a huge fan of Coach KSC and the way she’s led the team this year, here’s an anecdote I noticed last night: 2nd set, PSU getting roughed up, and Kash Williams is clearly rattled; huge crowd & WI block seem to be getting to her. PSU TO. All players in a circle, KSC walks up behind Kash, leans only slightly towards her ear and either grills her or gives her the sternest pep-talk ever for 20-40 seconds straight, Kash never stops looking forward but obviously is locked into the 1-way dialog. Coach just laid into her mercurial star player in front of 7,000 screaming fans, but it was almost impossible to notice. Such a classy, respectful, subtle way to coach a young woman in an overwhelmingly high pressure moment. Seems like the type of coach players would want to play for.

I wholeheartedly agree - Coach took a challenging circumstance, taking over from a living legend, and the emigration of all but one starter, and formed a team which performed in accord with the PSU tradition. She did so with grace and poise. The first and slightly startling evidence that expectations would be exceeded was the quality of the transfers. Clearly these 4 impactful players were not troubled by a whole new staff and chose to take a chance with PSU. And for the most part, these 4 performed at close to, or in some ways better than, those who left. As the season progressed, the staff demonstrated flexibility-most notably the insertion of Markley, and generally put the players in position to make best use of their skills. The team also had a truly competitive attitude-with many come backs. While the group was pretty inconsistent, they often found ways to win even overcoming low hitting percentages. Very entertaining season, which is attributable to our new leader.
