After watching the game I think the high scoring differential for Jess showed a lot to her ability to convert points off of a lot of clean-up and OOS sets this game especially to hit 0.339. Definitely hoping that continues throughout the season. She really has a strong ability to see the gaps in the block and on the court. There will still need to be more production from the OH2 position and I do think the competition for that will improve the players greatly.
Also really great seeing the defensive players and defense really as a whole step up this weekend! Mac does seem to be settling in a bit more with the hitters and her options too.

The not-obvious obvious things is that Jess would be nowhere near where she's hitting if not for Big (I mean that in the nicest, fiercest way) Mac. And the others who set her as well.
BTW, the number of times the front row had to resort to pushing or the back row sending a free ball over was lower than I've seen from PSU over the years. Our front row is attacking -- either pounding, tipping, or whatever -- everything.
Finally, in FL, it seemed like PSU looked a bit lost at times. Saw none of that this week, even in our losing sets.
PS If you saw Jess celebrate the terrific attack from Van E at 23/set 4...you know she's doing this for the team, not the stat sheet.

Wonder if that will feed back into the coaches' poll? Well, one wait to find out.
