As the spring exhibitions against Pitt draw closer, I’m curious who people think will be Penn State’s breakout performer this season (among players who weren’t starters last year). Sound off in the comments. I would love to hear everyone’s opinions. Personally, I’m excited to see what Maggie Mendelson will do at middle blocker this fall.

I’m very excited to see Izzy run the show. It’s been a while since PSU has had a freshman setter that’s highly touted. I wanna see the sister synergy with Anjelina. I kinda wanna see Anje get to play more front row this year. I’m excited on how our former Nebraska now Penn Staters will do. Maggie is a great player based on what I’ve seen and excited to have size and speed in the MB position. Caroline I hear can hit the ball very very hard. We have a lot of talent on the pins and I am intrigued on where she’s gonna place in the pecking order.

I am also intrigued with how KSC will use Ava this year. The competition at libero should be fun to watch.
And let’s not forget about Jordan. Her experience will add to the competition at MB.
Izzy’s development and synergy with her teammates will be crucial. Any inkling if KSC brings in another setter from the Transfer Portal to back Izzy up this season?

My understanding is that the team could add another setter from the portal (likely a grad transfer), but they won’t add someone just for the sake of adding someone. It would have to be a good fit for both sides. Also, it’s a difficult sell with Izzy already on the roster as the presumed starter (with four years of eligibility remaining). I think the staff feels fairly content with Quinn Menger as the backup if she remains the only other setter.

I saw Karis Willow today at the men’s game unfortunately it looks like she is badly injured. Knee was taped and braced and needed crutches. Hoping for a speedy recovery for her.

Definitely agree on Izzy being a big standout. From what I saw during the UA all american game the team is in great hands with her as setter. I still wonder if running a 6-2 is on the table with the offensive weapons the team has. Also hoping Markley has a big impact this season I know her time is coming.
