What PSU W-VB has accomplished in the last 8 year is truly epic, winning four in a row, 6 out of 8 years. I think of two other programs that had similar periods of national championship success...UCLA in men's bkbl and Indiana in swimming, both in the 1960's. By the early 1970's other programs had caught up to both, other schools made the investments in facilities, top name coaching etc. to compete. We would all love to see PSU W-VB keep winning the NC year after year but its unlikely they can keep that up. We have seen how a number of Big Ten programs have improved, and the Pac 10 leaders remain strong.
As you all may know recruiting the top 50 players because more problematic as you keep winning. Competitors can guarantee scholarships and playing time, legitimately pointing out to top prospects that they may not get to play much or at all for a while at PSU. Student athletes can get a very good education at all of the Big Ten schools, and at many of the other schools regularly ranked in the top 20.
PSU may very well win more NCs in the coming years. But winning as frequently as they have since since 2007 is unlikely. That run is unlikely to be achieved by any W-VB program for a long time.

Take a look at North Carolina's Women's Soccer program and the Univ. of Connecticut's Women's Basketball program and tell me you cannot keep winning year in and year out at the collegiate level for over a decade, even in our current era. Even if this is a lost year, which it could be, Penn State will be relevant for years to come. A good program doesn't fall apart that easily. The difference between a good team and a good program is that a good team's players graduate, a program keeps churning out good players year after year. They won't win a NC every year, but they'll have a chance to compete for one every year. At least we'll get to keep this nice forum running for a long time to come with plenty to talk about.

It's not over until I say it's over. It's NOT over.

After all, the 2010 team lost their last regular season game.
But is it OK to be phishstixed-off?

Let's describe the emotion as constructive hostility.

You're so 21st Century!
And I must be honest, there's little constructive about how I feel, although the venting has been... cathartic.
I'm ready to move forward.

Scarlet O'Hara was right. Tomorrow IS another day!
I did a quick look at some of the stats from games from the preceding two seasons. For a 3-0 sweep the scores weren't too bad.

Some programs like UNC women's soccer and UCONN's women's basketball keep reloading with terrific talent. Look at Penn State's next couple of recruiting classes and who we have on the bench now. We aren't reloading. The program will have a precipitous decline over the next 2-3 years. We have probably seen our last conference championship for several years. We can forget any national championships on the foreseeable future.

We can forget any national championships on the foreseeable future. Whoa!!! I shall repeat the word Aaron Rodgers spelled out in an interview last year to panicking Packers fans, "R-E-L-A-X." There are always last minute recruits who come in that can be difference changers. Also, I noticed a lot more Big10 schools are bringing in transfers, not sure if that was the case in the past, with the exception of Nebraska. Could this be a new trend? If so, will Russ join in sooner rather than later? In any case, only the 2016 recruiting class is set. The 2017 and beyond is still open for business. I would assume there will be more recruits. Problem is that more schools are recruiting (verbally) younger and younger kids. We'll see, I'm sure there will be more top recruits who want to play for Russ in the future. Also, from what I hear, Salima is an excellent recruiter, so that's a boon for the program. Finally, I'd have to say that we have one of the top recruiting classes in the nation (the 2014 sophomores), which means we will have them another 2 years after 2015. Bryanna (and the Libero situation) WILL IMPROVE, as did Micha from her freshmen to senior year. Therefore, I see another 2 NC runs in this class.
