Just a reminder what was said at the end of the Indiana match thread:
Oct 13, 2024 at 9:00pm Onthebench said: "Even though tough serves are encouraged, there must be some restraints in over-serving. There are and will be games that are decided by one or two points and service errors may be the difference in winning and losing. Hope they'll practice tons amount this week to make some corrections"
"I posted this in another thread, but it's probably more relevant here.....
"I've been thinking about the serving a lot lately.
I don't recall where I read this, or which coach did this, but a certain coach would make the back line shorter by a few feet during serving practices.
The reason he did this is because he realized the players were amped-up during matches and hit the ball long, more often than not during actual games, whereas in practice they would serve extremely well and in-bounds.
I thought that was a great managerial breakdown and tactic."
EnglishPennStateFan said.....
"This was a successful training tactic I used when my 16U and 15U girls school teams were English Schools Champions in 1984, 85 and 86. I think I mentioned it on the forum last year when a lot of serves were being hit long. Loving Penn State's unbeaten start to the conference. As always, Nebraska and Wisconsin will be the toughest tests."
Posting today....hopefully, KSC will address the overserving issue using a similar idea. Even getting servers to start their approach a couple of metres further back in matches would be worth trying. Couldn't do that in my gym as it was only 22m long, cf an 18m court, so my servers started with their backs pressed up against the gym wall and I had to be quite lenient with foot faults!!

Something I will never forget. It was a chilly February day in Columbus, Ohio 2021. Covid was raging and no fans in the stands. It was surreal. Penn State easily won the the first two sets. Then the wheels came off. Ohio State looked like a team that was completely replaced by another one. To this day I have never seen defense catch fire like OSU did that afternoon. They did a reverse sweep and we looked like a deer in the headlights. I feel it was the match that started their dominant run for next couple of years. We haven't been caught off-guard since.

I’m about to get on the road to Columbus for tonight’s match. Should be a fun one. The Covelli Center is a beautiful venue. I really enjoyed my time there last November for the regular season finale.
