Got to watch the replay and was struck by the changes. Different starting rotations, we saw Taylor serve instead of Maggie, we got Kate Lally serving in set 1, (and while not relevant to the floor play, Coach was wearing a head covering). A bit unusual to change so much when a team is on a winning streak, and that may have contributed a little bit to the less than pristine performance.
Anjelina really struggled in serve receive and so Ms. Nathan came on in set 2, then Maggie got hurt, oh and in set 3 Jess set Gillian for a flat footed back row attack (hurting Gill's hitting percentage), late in set 3 Gill and Joc almost bumped foreheads and as a result Jess got blocked, but there were enough subs to get through the 29-27 set.
Anjelina came back on for set 4, Jess was not as lethal from the back row, and of course the connection on the slide with Bobb was not comfortable.
All in all lots of oddities. We can hope Maggie will be able to go today and "normal order" will prevail.

Again the ladies did not relent with another team going full on "kitchen sink" after them. They held their ground like the good ones do. Here are some reasons why they find a way.
Taylor - 12 kills 857% - 6 blocks Caroline - 6 blocks Izzy - 48 assists - 5 blocks Jess - 21 kills 300% Jordan 7 blocks!
This is how they win when others are having an off night. The ladies have each other's back. 23-1 is proof.

I was wondering if the staff wasn't looking ahead at WI and decided to give some of the other team members opportunities to play. The latter is obviously important if Maggie can't go for WI.
Perhaps it was the camera angles or my imagination, but it didn't seem like we were hitting the ball as hard as we normally do (maybe saving some energy for WI?)
As to the #9 reference, the announcers couldn't stop talking about Jess. It seemed like she was their primary focus and everyone else in a supporting role. So we are #9 subconsciously.

I wondered that too. Perhaps the quality of the opponent led to rotation decisions and getting a few others some playing time. (eg: bringing on Ms. Burke for the final point). I appreciate why announcers would spend lots of time talking about Jess - I do too.

Listen. These young women w no exception I can think of were recruited by RR and KSC or KSC. The reality last night was that inaddiion to fighting to stay #3 The in loco parentis is fighting perhaps for her life. The turban was irritating KSC all night and at least subliminally I’m sure the players are continuing to absorb all this. Under the circumstances I think they held up well. Grace to all.
i say we do this: make a toast to imperfection. Our coach is not in perfect health. Our serving wasn’t perfect our middle has an ankle injury. we were out of sorts.
w all that imperfection, look at the faces of the team, their body language.
w all we are asking them to do in this moment they seem perfectly at ease being surrounded by imperfection. cam didn’t pout or blame when she didn’t get the perfect set from Starck in set 4. Starck didn’t yell when she had to convert a really iffy pass.
couldn’t be more proud to be a fan of these women.
