This has been discussed over on VT for a couple of months but it looks like NCAA has now made it official! Effective 2016, the 4 Regional hosts will no longer be pre-selected but selected based on who the top seed is coming out of Rounds 1 and 2 from each Region. What does this mean for Penn State? Well, if we win our Conference next season, it's a good chance we will be a top 4 seed going into tournament and able to host the Regional in 2016 and every year after that should we be one of the 4 top seeds coming out of 1st two rounds. There will be no changes to the first-round host sites, with the top 16 seeds having a chance to host. Highest remaining seeds will host regionals next year

That would just be wrong, because, most likely, that same seed would host the first 2 rounds, the regional rounds (3 & 4), AND the final? Not a good thing. Especially if Omaha gets all 6 matches.

How do you make plans ahead, regarding hotels, etc.? Better hope no other major event is happening in the same city, because you may not find a room.

Fair point, but the toughest competing event at most colleges is a home football game, and the regular football season is over by December (there may be a few exceptions).

Personally, I'm surprised that ESPN went along with this. It will complicate their logistics. Also, it might force changes for school's who have basketball and volleyball teams sharing the same facility.
It is incentive to do well.

ESPN was against this but they don't make NCAA's decisions. I like it because it rewards the top teams and gives other teams more incentive to do well and schedule tough match-ups in pre-conference season so they can have a chance to host a Regional where before, some of those schools had no chance at all. This places us in a great position as we, unlike some other schools, don't need to worry about not having Rec Hall available during Regionals. As for those other schools that may have a conflict with other sports scheduling that would prohibit the volleyball team from using their venue, the NCAA has stated that if this is the case, then the Regionals can be held up to 30 miles away from the schools home court.

Yea, problem is that the Final Four will always be pre-determined because of logistics, etc... so yea that is a real possibility, especially with the way the NCAA loves the Omaha location for the Finals. But i guess because U Neb is in Lincoln, that they can say its not the same venue. Anyway, this sells more tickets for them, so they wont mind... Seems that the West Coast and Mid West would have this happen a lot more than East coast teams... Seems there is always a FF in CA, NE, WA - and only a few Final Fours in FL or KY...
