As we saw in the beginning of last season- Aiyana started out as a middle. I think this is a very viable option again this coming season. I went to YouTube to review a couple games of her in this position. I noticed she was a little slow to close on some blocks. But was effective off of two feet in front of the setter.
I don't think the offense can stand to be without Simone Lee.
The Pierce sisters, I imagine will step into Dom and Lacey's roll- having the most significant experience in the backrow and doing steady as subs in last year's tourney.
Megan at OPP for her blocking prowess and all around studliness.
Ali has to become a 6 rotation player this season.
Then the unknowns;
Who will land the setter role (competition will benefit both Bryanna and Wilmarie)?
Who will be serving sub(s)?
How is Heidi shaping into form?
How will Tori transfer her skills into college?
Will Nia Reed be able to contribute this season?

I don't see Whitney moving to MH -- she excelled at Opp/RS. For the same reason, I don't see Megan moving to Opp -- she was incredible in the Final Four at OH. Then again, Simone Lee is very talented (as is Nia Reed). The question about Thelen was more her offense. I would hope/assume it's improved, but as with all your on - point questions, I don't have an answer. My guess is the libero will be a Pierce, but I imagine it's a battle as to which one.

I'd love to see more of Lee (and Reed). Hard to see Whitney moving anywhere though. She was fabulous and only got better with experience last year. Glad the AVCA saw it and made her second team AA. If she stays on track she'll be first team this year. She played well in the middle but she was really a difference maker for this team on the RS -- an incredibly high point of attack, just super hard to defend. I think given the history, though, whoever we see starting will be best player regardless of age. The competition at practice should be pretty amazing this year.

Well, the competition just got anorexia intense. PSU released its 2015 roster (see the 2015 Roster thread on this forum) and it includes Jelena Novakovic, a 6-2 (or 6-3) lefty Opp. from Belgrade, Serbia. Canulli and Dykstra not on the roster.

Is it usual for someone who commits as a freshman to change her mind?
Just saw in the roster thread that NC has apparently given up volleyball. Answered my question.

Look how that all worked itself out...I was secretly worried most about the shallow offensive dept on the practice squad. But the get of Jelena Novakovic is just stellar, I honestly couldn't be more pleased! Her style of play will be such a positive contribution to the program. Trust the process people!!!

Does she have a shot at starting, Or contributing? Coach Rose appears to prefer picking a starting setter and sticking with her. So a 6-2 doesn't seem likely, but what do I know?.

We'll know who'll be the starters in a couple of months. I am just looking forward to the time when some of them are given the opportunities to showcase their abilities, especially Tori and Jelena from this year's class. From the videos, they both look very athletic.

It is nice to see activity on the forum picking up. I wonder if volleytalkers will detect a fall-off in PSU chatter?

I believe it will pick up a lot as the season gets closer. I don't think this will affect VolleyTalk -- and that certainly isn't the goal. I suspect many will just do double-duty -- posting both places. I do believe this will be a friendly environment where we can express pride in the team without any downside.
