Anybody know why we are losing all these football players? I can understand a change in coaches(i.e. defense/offense) but what would be reason for losing all these players? linebacker Troy Reeder to Delaware - linkwide receiver Geno Lewis to Oklahoma - linkrunning back Akeel Lynch - linkdefensive tackle commit Michael Dwumfour now looking at Michigan and Notre Dame. - link

Two coaches also left in the last year, but from what I've been seeing, it's not due to any problems within PSU. It has more to do with the best options for the families and careers of these coaches (Bob Shoop for TN and Herb Hand for Auburn).

For these specific cases, Lynch finds he is no longer the man but stuck behind Saquon Barkley on the depth chart; Lewis has graduated and presumably wants to play his last year of eligibility with a veteran quarterback; Reeder I have no idea.

If speculation is the worst fallout from the last four days, than Penn State can be considered fortunate. After all, programs across the country would stand in line to lose three coaches (and two coordinators) since the end of the season and only have one recruit decommit and one, and maybe two, potential impact players depart.
But if the hits keep coming, the line between fanatical overreaction to something that Penn State has rarely experienced in its football program and the likelihood of legitimate problems will become blurred.

There was a good post by Mark Brennan on this topic on Fight On State -- can't find it now. But in essence, he said Shoop is a loss, Hand, the jury is out; Gino Lewis would have been competing for the #3 receiver spot; Reeder is a loss, but there were personal reasons; other player transfers -- they weren't going to play much. Alot is being made out of not much, in part because, IMHO, there are lingering concerns about Franklin in the fan base (which generally ignores/downplays the effect of the sanctions these past two seasons), and in part because our fan base has never experienced staff turnover before O'Brien.
I think the program is on the right trajectory. fwiw.

Were there some sanctions still in place in 2015?

Were there some sanctions still in place in 2015? In a sense, no, but the cumulative effect was that Penn State didn't have the full total of scholarship athletes on the team -- and the team was very, very, very young.
