DigNittanyVolleyball has learned that there will be two team captains for the 2016 team — 5-6 Sr. DS Taylor Krause and 6-3 Jr. MB Haleigh Washington. Congrats to both — terrific choices (from our decidedly outsider, speculative point of view).
Here's a link to the (unofficial) 2016 team roster: Unofficial 2016 PSU Roster

I'm not sure I see either of them as the "alpha female" that Rose said this year's team lacked.

In an interview during the season, Rose said he saw Washington as a future captain, at the collegiate level, and beyond. I'd say that speaks to Ann alpha personality.

While leadership is necessary; execution is vital. The entire Krause family has been very supportive of PSU volleyball.

I'd say that speaks to Ann alpha personality. As Maui says, only time will tell. Presumably Rose also saw alpha potential in Whitney, Courtney, and Pierce. And who knows?--Having so many captains might have contributed to the problems last year.

Russ usually picks from his senior class (that is, seniors who actually get playing time) for the captaincy. In 2016 there seems to be very few seniors who actually get regular playing time in 2015, only Krause I believe. As for Washington, Russ did say she was a natural leader. I think what needs to be clarified is what an alpha role means. Sometimes we can confuse it with a "fiery" personality (e.g., Micha Hancock). Whereas, I think it refers to someone who people listen to and follow when they speak. Haleigh is definitely a confident and eloquent speaker, especially in the spotlight. She also has a humble and kind demeanor, from what I can determine based on her speech at the AVCA banquet and other interviews. If she can pass that confidence on to her teammates during matches (the key, in my book), especially when the team is trailing, I think Penn State will be successful in 2016.

Note: At the NCAA All American ceremony, Washington referred to Gorrell as a middle. we show her as RS or OH. Interesting possible development! Washington referred to her in very positive terms. Found the interview from the ceremony on youtube.
