I'm not able to add a link, but it's being widely reported. Great news, IMHO.

Great news, perhaps, but also incredibly frustrating. Had the Board of Trustees acted as fiduciaries instead of trying to cover their asses and had Rod Erickson not been the biggest quisling since Vidkun, how much turmoil might have been avoided for these individuals, the University, and the hundreds of thousands of alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends?

Not inappropriate at all, but I'm hoping (quixotically) that discussion can focus on the good news, and not a rehashing of the many, many shortcomings, cowardly acts, and flat out mistakes by the Board and Erickson, as well as overreaching and cowardly behavior by the NCAA and others, that led to the sanctions. But, this is on the Off Topic Forum, so fire away if it feels right to do so.

I may take this up later. It is really too big an issue for me to "fire away" at. I'd rather write thoughtfully, and right now I need to do some shoveling and get ready to watch the PSU-Illinois wrestling match at 4:00. But it is also a troublesome issue for me, and I don't know that I will ever be able to articulate how the handling of this episode changed my attitude towards Penn State. I sometimes think I shouldn't even still be following the few teams I continue to, but some loyalties go beyond logic.
I grew up in State College through third grade, returned in tenth, have three degrees from Penn State, was a graduate instructor, job applicant (unsuccessful), modest financial supporter, and general Penn State booster. Sure, I follow the women's volleyball now, follow the wrestling team as I have for over 40 years, go see the men's volleyball team when they play Sacred Heart, keep an eye on both soccer teams, but I know that Penn State is the home that I can't really ever go back to.

I also grew up in State College, have been a modest financial supporter, but went elsewhere to college. I completely understand your perspective. By "fire away" I didn't mean "post without forethought" but rather anything anyone wishes to post that's not libelous and otherwise is within our Terms of Use is fine -- though boards like Fight on State have dissected the issues in excruciating detail. I'm with you on the wrestling!
