I don't think the timing will affect recruiting -- I think Coach Rose and Salima are the main recruiters (but I am speculating). Timing? I have no idea, but I assume Coach Rose wants to fill the vacancy as quickly as possible, while at the same time getting the best person possible. So, he won't be rushed, but I'd be pretty confident it's a very high priority. BTW, don't know if anyone noted this elsewhere: NU's Chan landed at Samford. Back in same conference where he formerly coached -- Furman. Samford site has quotes from Rosen, Rose, Furman coach (former player of Chan's) and others about how lucky Samford is. Samford is in Birmingham?

I believe Bobby Bowden started his coaching career there; in football of course.

My undergrad school is in the Southern Conference, so I have a bit of familiarity with Samford. It's a private school with a pretty good football and baseball tradition, so that is where they put most of their resources. It sounds like they are serious about improving their volleyball program if they brought Chan in.

He always seemed to be just on the verge (except when he went past the verge and knocked off Penn State. Arrrgh!)
