Clare Powers, a 6-3 So. OH who last played for the Saint Mary’s College Gaels, has tweeted her commitment to Penn State. Welcome Clare!
Here's an excerpt from the write-up on DigNittanyVolleyball:
As a freshman in 2014, Clare was a six-rotation player for Saint Mary’s, averaging 1.93 kills/set (3rd on the team) and 2.19 digs/set (4th on the team), and was named to the WCC All-Freshman team. Clare also excelled playing sand, filling the No. 2 slot with partner Mary Hernandez. In High School, Clare starred at national power Archbishop Mitty-San Jose where, as a senior, she earned MaxPreps.com All-America honors after totalling 408 kills, 33 blocks, 304 digs, 505 serve receptions and a serve percentage of 96 percent for the Division II state champion Monarchs. She played club volleyball for the Vision Volleyball Club in San Jose — the same program that produced SMC standouts Kristina Graven and Jordan Shaw. Her older sister, Annie, played volleyball at Providence and her brother, Jack, plays football at Arizona State. Powers’ father Mark played basketball at San Diego. What is the story on Clare Powers? According to Saint Marys website Clare only played in 26 sets last year hitting .059 with 15 kills. Was she injured?

ST.M has a very small roster, and only 10 players (if i counted right) saw play time last year. Very different!

PSU has carried up to 20 players. Many players that have left other teams have done so because of lack of court time in games. Less likely to happen on a small-roster team.
