In watching some of the best coaches in their field at work, Popovich, Maddon and Belichick, who are all in the 63 to 67 range and I'm thinking why would we all assume a guy like Russ's retirement is right around the corner?
Imo, Coach Rose could have retired 5 years ago. I don't see any slowing down, in fact his energy level is as high as it has ever been. (That is what separates him from so many)
I could EASILY see him coaching another 5-7 years. He has a system in place, has a coaching staff that should hold together for the majority of that time and a forward thinking athletic depth who wants to make infrastructure improvements.
My point is that recruits need, as much as possible, to put that "concern" down to the middle or bottom of the list. Coaches of all years of experience move and leave positions all the time and it's never for certain a coach will be there for 4 years.

Negative recruiting takes a lot of forms. The "he/she is going to retire soon" is a particularly unimaginative one, and in the case of Russ Rose, really off the mark.

The other factor is that Russ has some fabulous talent just down the bench, many of whom may have been even more important to recruits. If you're setting, Salima is likely as or more important. Coach's incredible generosity -- he looks like he delegates better than most D1 coaches, and he seems constantly engaged in BUILDING coaches, especially among female players -- has me feeling relatively relaxed about the inevitable whenever it comes. I'd also note that this is a 'rich' program's problem. Many D1 coaches are likely closer to being fired than retired. We're so lucky.
