As was the case last season, I think it will be all about passing this season. It wasn't there early last year and seemed to decline further late in the season There is plenty of fire power up front if the back row and setter can get the ball where it needs to go.

We know what returning players are capable of. I am looking forward to what some of the newcomers can bring to the court.

Really excited to see the new lineup. I'm sure it will morph from day-to-day and even set-to-set. The season is young, and so are the players. Should be fantastic. I am looking forward to see the the team chemistry. My belief is that if they can gel as a team, the sky is the limit. We certainly have a team with enough talent to win against anyone in the country. It should be fun!! Go State!!

Detering and White are both upgrades at setter and libero. PSU will struggle against the tall teams but will be competitive all season. I really like Abby at the setter position.

Defense was definitely the obvious improvement. In the past, our lack of defense was usually compensated for by heavy swings. Not this year. After 2 matches, it appears the whole team's confidence and approach to D was spot on. Anchored by a poised libero, and really, all players were much more aware of the need to receive serve, pass, dig so that they could stay alive in a point, was evident and countered their lack of put away strength we are used to seeing. As Russ has proven over and over, it's the defense and passing that wins matches. Only 2 matches in, but an obvious welcomed confidence is exciting. They'll keep improving, but the improved D will help them in their pursuit of regaining the strength of mind needed to defeat taller, big hitting teams. Kudos to Kendall White, Heidi Thelen and Wilma Rivera.

Not tested yet in any way after the first two matches. Need to see some pressure and need to see them come back to prove that the focus is there.
Easy stuff does not teach much!

True that they haven't been tested yet - maybe this evening, but so far I am impressed by Kendall White. Big improvement there!

She will probably get better as the season progresses. Already my favorite player. A fierce competitor and aggressive. Covers a lot of the court. Kendall isn't afraid layout to make a play, but it's not reckless. Went into the drumline of the pep band opening night. Love it!

Graham, Krause-the-younger, and Farrell seemed to be on medical holds. sitting in front of the band for the entire tournament.
