It's interesting to contemplate whether they might have climbed with a better 4th set. And would the team really be any better?

I don't agree with this ranking, but I don't mind the lower ranking either. For too many years we've seen PSU with a ranking which was higher than they deserved (according to coach). Again, the only way to go is up. The only thing I don't understand is how Stanford gets in the top 10 after taking a tough loss to SDSU (previously unranked)? I know the MN win gets them there, but I don't think MN deserves their ranking either. They will take a lot more losses without Santana to bail them out.

Agree with the above comments. Ranking is irrelevant. This group has real potential, often with two setters and middles on the floor at the same time, and apparently more useful back row subs to come in as needed. Passing and serving overall seemed better than last year at this time. Simone Lee and Heidi Thelen really looked ready to fill bigger roles. So, once we get the setter situation figured out, and if Frantti and Washington adjust to tougher blocking schemes, it may be that the ladies will defeat highly ranked opponents. The ranking will then take care of itself.
