All the wonderful plans for Wisconsin's setter shot to hell. This, and to have been upstaged in her first two years by that inferior setter from Penn State! My oh my. How will Badger fans deal with this? Hope the hotlines in Madison are ready. Yes, but she will be the setter on the National team eventually.

I don't know the game of volleyball well enough to appreciate her. For me, it was and always will be Micha. I watched her first game against USC on the BTN and I fell in love. There's a reason Micha always did better head-to-head. Wisconsin's setter just doesn't have the grit.

Well, carlini struck out again I look forward to seeing her on the national team. I think her biggest collegiate mistake started from the moment she said that she wanted to win multiple national championships with the Badgers. Uhhh, try winning one first, then worry about the multiples. Moral of the story, don't count your eggs before the chicken even lays them.

If you haven't seen it, you might want to check it out. She has had to rise above tunz o' hype. Regrettably, I think she internalized a lot of it. But what put me off the most were her supporters who could explain away any shortcoming by blaming it on the inadequacies of her supporting cast. Team hitting percentage for example. Over the last four years, Wisconsin has always hit below .300. Not to worry--no reflection on the setter. No. Bad hitters. Not selected as the setter for the Pan Am games? Passing wasn't good enough. You think someone else is better? Nooooo. You don't understand the game. I'm no Stanford fan and I hope they're dispatched in the semis. I don't want the tying PSU's 7 championships. But I am happy that Wisconsin and their zombie setter is done.

Are you referring to Micha or Carlini in this paragraph. I'm no Stanford fan and I hope they're dispatched in the semis. I don't want the tying PSU's 7 championships. But I am happy that Wisconsin and their zombie setter is done. I'm a homer like that too. I don't want Stanford to win for the same exact reason. LOL!!

Millenium:
Sorry, I didn't mean to be so cryptic.
Yes, I meant Micha's interview. It's late. I don't know if it's still in DigNittany or PSU Volleyball archives. I'll try to look for it tomorrow. I seem to recall that Micha said she'd like to win a couple National Championships with PSU.
I was referring to Carlini in the "longish" paragraph.
I'm a shameless homer, but I can't convince myself that the future will ever match the past.

Couldn't happen ever. Except it did. Happen again? Not holding my breath, but Penn State will be very good again. In the future. Maybe even next season and 2018.

To say that Carlini does not have grit seems extreme. She has worked to bring her team up and never given up that hope and it has failed. No appreciation for the fact she tied and failed? I would seek a more generous consideration for a competitor who went all out and lost. In coaching we talked to the players about respecting their opponent and that working hard, consistently and giving it your all some times ends up on the junk pile: BUT THEY TRIED!

You're right, of course. As an individual and as a member of Wisconsin's team, Wisconsin's setter has made great contributions and been an exemplary player. Certainly among the best setters of the last four years. But sometimes, especially when it comes to the Badger setter, I have a hard time time being even-handed. And I sorta let the dark side out in discussing her early this morning. So yes, I respect her accomplishments and how she helped Wisconsin's programs. I'm also happy to say that in terms of results and her team's accomplishments, she never came close to PSU's recent four year setter.

Carlini certainly is at least two things: supremely talented and a fierce competitor. If she had played for Penn State, we all would have loved her. Thanks for your perspective.

Thanks for the link. Micha mentions near the end of the interview what her expectations are of herself during her stay at PSU. She said that one of her expectations was to win a national championship (not multiple), which I thought was modest.

At least the link remains. We were fortunate that she was able to play at PSU--as was she. There would have been no championships at Tulsa.

Looking back at Micha's many HS accolades, it amazes me she ever considered Tulsa. (I know, it was a family thing, but still...) That the Tulsa coaching change occurred and we benefitted...such luck. PSU wouldn't have done what it has without her; i think it's fair to say she wouldn't be who/where she is without PSU and its coaches.

I'd say the 2007-2010 accomplishments were the best recruiting tool for student-athletes like Micha.
