So, Coach Dunning's retirement caught many of us by surprise. As he's apparently a friend of Coach Rose, he MUST be a good guy so we wish him the best.
I can think of two "reverberations*" from Dunning's departure:
1. It will effect PSU's pre-season scheduling/planning. For the last (at least) seven years, PSU and Stanford have been part of tournaments--the Big Four and now the B1G - PAC-12 Challenge. I'm pretty sure the schools are contractually obligated to finish the challenge this fall at Illinois. After that, all bets are off. It was good having Stanford on the schedule for RPI and as a way to gauge the team's strengths and weaknesses.
2. Stanford's team was most impressive this year. And with Dunning at the helm, they looked like they were set to go on a run for a few more championships. Now... that's not such a sure thing. That should make PSU fans, and many other programs' fans see all sorts of opportunities. Also, if the new coach is less that ideal, might some of Stanford's players look for other homes? Hey! A guy can hope!
((3) Some Stanford fans are looking wistfully at Coach Rose. He wouldn't leave for the joys of Palo Alto, would he?)
*Reverberation is a really good, albeit obscure, album by Echo and the Bunnymen.

Coach Rose to Stanford?
Not a snowball's chance.

All I have to say is... I hope Salima doesn't eye the Stanford job! Couple people mentioned her name on VT.

Not knowing what type of arrangement Coach Rose and Salima have makes this speculation a possibility. And, on this site, we tend to stay away from unfettered speculation. Less impactful might be something like Illinois' Kevin Hambly getting the job. I'd kind of like it if a B1G coach get the job, if only to see what might happen next. On the wild side, I'd love to see the downstream effects of John Cook taking the job. Oops! Think those fetters are getting loose. I don't want to see Karch get the job because I enjoy his analysis during the tournament.

I don't see Salima leaving for Stanford. The pay would need to be stratospheric, or the job come with a house. But who knows.

Coach Dunning is and was a very special coach and gentleman. He will be missed for his insights and his manner on and off the court. Hopefully his legacy will be emulated by many.

BTW, saw video of Haleigh and others speculating on what Coach would do in retirement. (?Flo volleyball?? not sure...). Hated to see minors so busy speculating about booze and smokes.

Kevin Hambly from Illinois?!
Maybe more impact than other choices?

At least Russ and other B1G coaches will know what tactics Stanford will be employing in the future; having played Illinois almost twice a season.
