We've updated the PSU stats through 8-27-17. Here's the link: 2017 Stats Page - DigNittanyVolleyball.comGranted, the WVU Invitational didn't present the highest level of competition, so best not to get too excited about the stats so far. Still, one would think that if you are hitting .556, which is Ali Frantti's hitting percentage through the first three matches, that you would be leading your team in hitting percentage -- or at least top two -- rather than ranking #4 on your team, like Ali Frantti. Another stat that jumps out to us: Abby Detering is second on the team in points/set at 3.44, trailing only Simone Lee, who leads the team with 4.00 points/set. Interested in peoples' comments.

A change in the avatar from lions to lynx? It's by a photographer my wife and I met in Alta Norway (who also was our guide on a dogsled trip we took). I include them both in the broad category of "cats." Not all cats are created equal (though all are quite assured that they are gods), but this one embodies the fierce determination we all hope for in a Penn State team. Plus, the post is about links, so . . . .

I had to go back to 2013 to find better blocking stats. The hitting stats exceed 2008 levels, but it is a tad early. The big take-away for me is that there we no real weaknesses in the first three games. Many of us saw the WVU contest as being potentially more of a challenge--it wasn't. I think the third set was when the team was unleashed. That's what Stanford and Texas A&M need to worry about. As fans, we'll find out what we have next week--and so will Stanford. What will Kevin Hambly do?

Curious that Washington is the MVP when Simone had more kills, lead the team in blocking and points and was 23 of 33 in the dig category.

I also thought Simone would be the MVP, but Haleigh did hit .667 for the weekend compared to Lee's .400 (granted, MBs have higher hitting percentages than OHs). On the digs, Simone had 23, but the number 33 refers to serve receive opportunities -- she had 33 serve receptions, with 3 reception errors (thus the .909 percentage for serve-receive).

Would be my opinion that more kills demands and more overall team contribution deserves more than a gaudy hitting percentage. Just my opinion.
