Last week I think Thelen started front row in rotation 1, with Lee and Detering, Weiskercher serving. Thelens opportunities dictated by excellent serve receive mostly by Frannti and White. I think yesterday Washington started front in rotation 1 with Frantti serving? Could someone check that?
Point is that strategy and match ups are also factors in the number of chances each middle gets. (relative to each other).

I don't think they differentiated properly between solo blocks and block assists.

Curious about Lee: she did much better in set 4. Obviously she was a target for serve receive a lot to get her off the offensive mode. She was also hitting against big blocks. So when she was successful in set 4, was it because she elevated her game, or because Stanford was paying less attention to her,or the setter adjusted their sets to allow her different angles?I am impressed by this team. Together, they will do great things. The greatest quality of Simone is her stamina. When the other team gets tired she just keeps playing 100% and often has her best results after the first two sets. However I still believe the coach should have a backup player competition ready in case Simone gets ill or injured. We do have quality backup players this year.

Nia Reed, Putnicki and Powers could and all continue to get work every day as Outside hitters.

I believe without checking the stats over a long period of time and evaluating k and attempts that Washington frequently has a lot fewer if maybe only 10 or 11% OF THE TOTAL attempts. Observing play I remember slide attacks. Seldom 1 balls or back row or even 1's from her position when or in 4. Yes the pass must be there but I feel tha tis not as miserable as advertised with a talented setter and passes that are between the 3 meter line and the net and not impinging on the middles space.

The left side hitters were having a hard against Stanford who has a big physical team. Our using two setters allows Penn State to stay in system most of the time which is usually reflected in our team hitting percentage. I expect us to continue to adapt and overcome the opponents defensive schemes this year and our own defense has become a huge strength. Looking forward to an awesome season. PS - I hope Nia gets more playing time also.

On a side note does anyone have any info on Keeton Holcomb or Tori Gorrell? They were both starters at their respective positions last year and didn't seem to be a factor against Stanford. I hope they are not injured.

Watching the Stanford/A&M stream...when they came back from a timeout, they showed a few video highlights of the PSU/Stanford match. So...yeah. It was recorded. That's just great.
