Team still hitting .368 and holding opponents to .144 Both are historically important stats come playoff time. Hopefully PSU can maintain such a nice, large gap through conference play.

Appreciation to the staff for the fast work! Question- what is the difference between a BE and a BHE ? NCAA Stats Manual PDF: Article 3. A player (not limited to the setter) is charged with a ball-handling error when the official calls: (1) A double hit. (2) A thrown ball. (3) A lifted ball. The exceptions are: (1) A thrown ball called on serve reception is a reception error, not a ball-handling error. (2) A double hit or thrown ball during an attack is an attack error. (3) A thrown ball during a block is a blocking error. Article 4. A blocking error (BE) is a call made by the referee that ends play. Article 5. A player is charged with a blocking error when: (1) A blocker goes into the net. (2) A blocker is called for a center-line fault. (3) A blocker is called for reaching over the net. (4) A back-row player is called for blocking. (5) A blocker is called for a thrown ball during a block.

Thanks again to the crack staff, and the Acronym/Abbreviation associations
Thanks to the staff's skill in code breaking. I am edified.

BHEs can be committed by any player. I'd say the most frequent are double-touches on sets, equally by the S and others stepping in in dicey situations.
BEs can only be committed by players in their front row rotation.
Wow; TAM had a huge number of net violations; it reminded me of (?I think?) 2 years ago when BW and HW had numerous. Our seniors seem to have cleaned that up.
Serving: Friday it looked like we had turned over a new leaf on serving errors (even though Coach apparently didn't think much of our serving). Saturday, return to the past. If we had been cleaner, I think the match would have been a 3 or 4 setter.

One thought came to mind: couple year's back when Micha got huge national attention off a AVCA NPOW award, she looked underwhelming on her next outing. I know from other stuff Coach said that she had a lot of stuff going on in her life, but I drew a straight line from the accolade to her diminished performance.
Wondered as I watched Detering on Saturday if the same had happened. Sometimes realizing just how good you can be can be very scary. One of the reasons, I think, that Coach often tries to tamp down on the records and honors until the end of the season. of course, I also think TAM has some extremely talented players who rose to the occasion and the coaching staff scouted PSU really well.

I think, if they could do it over again, TAMU would have scheduled their games on Friday and Sunday. They were on fire Saturday night and were probably running on fumes on Sunday with less that 24-hours of recover time.

the same could be said for penn state, friday they played stanford and where probably spent emotionally. not to take anything away from TAM but I don't think they got the best effort from us. which makes the win even more impressive.

TAM's block was good on Saturday, and they dug a lot of balls. So I was surprised by our hitting percentage. TAMs defense coupled with aggressive serving and lack of confidence in our "secondary" hitters led to a very unbalanced attack. Detering did not get too many swings and she was not able to get the ball to the floor when she had the chance. Thelen got blocked then missed on her quick chances trying to avoid the block. Reed was ineffective. So setters did what worked and we ground it out. Not the ideal but there will probably be other matches that go like that.
