Oh no! Minny is catching up big time. By next week they could surparse PSU. Penn State actually gained points over MN today! On Monday it was PSU .7450 to MN's .7421 which was a .0029 difference. Now it's .7501 (PSU) to MN (.7461) which is now a .0040 separation which makes it + .0011 increase today. It may not look like much but it actually is not bad. I think after our matches with Illinois and Michigan State, it's possible that MN may take over 1st place at least until Penn State plays WI and then MN which would all work out in the end should PSU win the rest of the matches. A lot of this depends on what PSU's opponents and their opponents do. PSU could still stay on top until end of season if enough opponents win. Penn State plays #23 Illinois on Sat. whereas MN plays #234 Rutgers on Friday. If both Penn State and MN win, the advantage goes to Penn State because they will have played a higher ranking team.

There wasn't any movement from the top 30 matches played today as far as positioning. Just wanted to show just from today's matches Penn State and MN are now neck and neck. Since Penn State and MN both play their next matches on Sat, I don't see MN moving past Penn State if both teams win unless MN gains a lot more points than Penn State from opponents/opponents,opponents win/losses on Friday/Saturday. Penn State has big advantage over MN on Saturday due to their playing a much higher ranked team. After tonight's matches here are #1 and #2 1 Penn State BIG10 0.7486 20-1 2 Minnesota BIG10 0.7483 20-2 Note: #51 West Virginia losing tonight to #54 TCU didn't help Penn State today. MN also played West Virginia earlier in season but MN but in addition to their playing WV, they also played #171 Texas A&M Corpus Christi who won today against #123 Houston Baptist. As we near the end of the regular season I will be including all of Penn State Opponents and their opponents results so it will be clearer to see why Penn State goes up or down in points. Probably will start doing this just before Penn State plays Wisconsin again. Here is something to think about. There are a total of 334 teams in DI Women's Volleyball. Of these 334 teams, 194 of these teams results can directly affect Penn State's RPI points causing their points to go up or down on a daily basis depending what these below teams do when they play. That is 58% of all teams in DI each and every week. The below 194 teams are either Penn State's "Opponents" or their "Opponents-Opponents". List of teams: Abilene Christian Air Force Akron Alabama Albany American Arizona Arizona State Arkansas Arkansas-Little Rock Arkansas-Pine Bluff Army Auburn Austin Peay Ball State Baylor Belmont Boise State Boston College Bowling Green Brown Buffalo Butler BYU Cal Central Arkansas Central Michigan Chattanooga Cincinnati Clemson Cleveland State Coastal Carolina College of Charleston Colorado Colorado State Columbia Cornell Creighton Dartmouth Dayton Delaware Denver DePaul Duke East Carolina Eastern Illinois Eastern Kentucky Eastern Michigan Elon Evansville Florida Florida Gulf Coast Florida State Furman George Washington Georgia Georgia State Georgia Tech Gonzaga Green Bay Harvard High Point Hofstra Holy Cross Howard Idaho State Illinois Indiana Indiana State Iowa Iowa State Jacksonville Jacksonville State James Madison Kansas Kansas State Kent State Kentucky Liberty Lipscomb LIU Brooklyn Long Beach State Louisiana Tech Louisiana-Monroe Louisville Loyola Marymount (LMU) Loyola-Chicago LSU Marquette Marshall Maryland Maryland Eastern Shore Memphis Miami-FL Miami-OH Michigan Michigan State Middle Tennessee Milwaukee Minnesota Mississippi State Missouri Missouri State Montana State Morehead State Morgan State Murray State NC State Nebraska New Hampshire Nicholls State North Carolina Northeastern Northern Illinois Northern Iowa Northwestern Northwestern State Notre Dame Oakland Ohio Ohio State Oklahoma Ole Miss Omaha Oral Roberts Oregon Oregon State Pacific Penn Pittsburgh Princeton Providence Purdue Rhode Island Rice Robert Morris Rutgers Saint Louis Saint Marys Sam Houston State Samford San Diego State Seton Hall Siena SIUE South Carolina South Carolina Upstate South Dakota Southeast Missouri Southeastern Louisiana Southern Illinois Southern Miss Stanford Syracuse TCU Temple Tennessee Tennessee State Tennessee Tech Texas Texas A&M Texas A&M Corpus Christi Texas Tech Toledo Towson UAB UCLA UCSB UMass-Lowell UMBC UMKC UNC Greensboro UNCW UNLV USC USF UT Martin Utah UTSA VCU Virginia Virginia Tech Wake Forrest Washington Washington State West Virginia Western Kentucky Western Michigan William & Mary Wisconsin Wright State Wyoming Xavier Yale

This is really tight 🙄 If both Penn State and Minnesota win today, Penn State should get some separation due to RPI of opponents. Good news is Penn State gained .0001 points on MN yesterday

After both Penn State and MN's matches today, here is the separation now! Note: Not all matches have been played today so that may change a little by end of day but you can see what happens by playing a top 25 team vs a team below 100. We will have to play Rutgers twice so it won't help our RPI when we do, so we need to get some distance from MN before then to keep above them in the RPI race.

Now Minny's position being threatened by top of SEC. Those top two big dogs in the SEC will be playing each other again on Wed in Kentucky. After a few matches today, Florida moved down to #5 while Nebraska moves up to #4 and Kentucky currently sits at #3. Right now there is only a .0005 point difference between 4th and 5th place. These change in positions may or may not stay this way. Depends on what happens in the rest of the matches played today.
