Conference tournaments are coming up starting on the 14th of this month. Starting on Sunday evening the 19th, I will be showing all the teams in top 64 RPI that will be eliminated from post season play so you can get a better idea what the 64 team tournament will look like for the most part as for who is getting in.

The bubble teams from #50-64 may change some when the selection show comes out. I will show all the teams that win their conference championship (Most if not all of the conference tournaments will be on WatchESPN) or if they don't have one and have clinched their conference then I will show them also. There are 32 automatic bids. 1 for each conference and then 32 at large which will be selected from the rest of the top 40 (approx.) teams in the RPI.

Even with Stanford losing they remain at #7 because they had such a wide point margin (.0196) on #8 Washington before the loss. Margin is much smaller today (.0043) than on Monday. Actually, before Stanford lost, they moved into #6 today past Texas.

I’m confused. How does Purdue beat both wisky and minny in same weekend and move down one? That makes no sense.

The points are extremely close in many cases and also you have to remember RPI is not just based on their win % which is only 25% of their RPI but all of their past opponents win % which is 50% of their RPI and then also their opponents opponents win % which is 25% of RPI. So you would have to look at how their opponents and their opponents did along with all the other teams around them and their info.

After Purdue beat Minnesota they moved up 5 positions to #21 but were only .0003 points away from being ranked #22

Right now there are only .0013 points separating ranks 19-22. Even though Purdue isn't playing today they could move up or down depending on results of the matches today.

I'm sure we will see them rewarded more in the coaches poll because the poll is not based on w/l % but what coaches think a team like Purdue deserves based on their two big wins.

#9 Oregon gets taken down by #106 Arizona in 5 sets in a big upset in the PAC 12 today. Oregon slides all the way down to #22!! Good news is that Purdue moves up two spots to #20!

Not all matches complete yet today so this may or may not stay the same later today. I attribute the big fall in position by Oregon to all those teams in the middle of the pack in the top 30 RPI to be extremely close in points from positions #9-22 (only .0111 points). Compare that to positions #1 and 2 (.0054)

Also, Texas and Nebraska switches places for the time being:

I think part of the switch in places is attributed to Nebraska played #221 Rutgers which = 0 bonus points and Texas played a top 25 team in Iowa State which = double bonus points!

I am now including the top 64 teams where there will be a cutoff line so you will be able to see what teams are likely to be in the post season. It will be much clearer where most teams will fall by end of next week as to whether they will make it into post season or not. As each of the 22 conference tournament champions and the remaining 8 conference winners without a tournament are crowned, you will see the cutoff line continue to move up.

Some of the teams that fall below the cutoff line may move above it later by achieving a better RPI or if they receive an AQ by winning their conference.

NOTE: It is possible that Florida may pass Penn State for #1 during this weeks matches due to SOS but as long as Penn State can win their final two matches, if they do fall below Florida, they should return back to #1 at end of regular season with a much stronger SOS.
