I thought this was Haleigh's 5th POW award this season, a new record for 2nd place in PSU history, breaking the 3-way tie. Maybe it was the 9th POW of her career that broke the 3-way tie for 2nd place in PSU history alone. That makes more sense anyways.

October 30, 2017...As mentioned elsewhere, B1G makes Haleigh co-PoW (Foecke, NE) Haleigh Washington, Penn State (4th citation this year)MB – Sr. – Colorado Springs, Colo. – Doherty • Averaged 3.4 kills and 2.1 blocks per set with a .548 hitting percentage to help top-ranked Penn State defeat No. 9 Wisconsin and Illinois, extending the team’s win streak to 11 matches • Put down a team-best 14 kills, while adding eight blocks to become the ninth Nittany Lion to register 500 career blocks in the team’s four-set win over No. 9 Wisconsin • Added 10 kills on 13 attempts with no errors, for a .769 hitting percentage against Illinois • Earns her ninth career Player of the Week award and fourth of the season • Last Penn State Player of the Week: Haleigh Washington (Oct. 9, 2017) And tips hat to White: Defensive Player of the Week Kendall White, Penn State (2nd award this year)L – So. – Indianapolis, Ind. – Cathedral • Averaged 4.9 digs per set to help top-ranked Penn State extend its win streak to 11 matches • Posted a match-best 21 digs and two assists in the Nittany Lions’ four-set victory over No. 9 Wisconsin • Earned 13 digs and was error-free in 12 reception attempts to help the team hit .479 in the straight-set win against Illinois • Collects her second career Defensive Player of the Week accolade • Last Penn State Defensive Player of the Week: Kendall White (Oct. 16, 2017) Not to be snarky: B1G awarded WI Rettke Freshman of Week award, even though we neutralized her impact on the match Wednesday. I'm so happy I just want to dance for Haleigh.

Here's the answer as to record PoW notices, straight from gopsusports:
...This was her 9th career weekly honor, surpassing Megan Hodge and Nicole Fawcett, who both had eight, for the program record. She also moved to 2nd by herself in the Big Ten records, trailing Stacey Gordon (OSU, 2001-04) who finished with 16.

I prolly shouldn't read those articles at work... too distracting. Thanks for giving the correct answer.

Failed to notice (in part because i didn't know this was a thing), but goPSUsports mentioned:
"Haleigh Washington was named the FloVolleyball Big Ten Player of the Month on Friday morning for her sustained performance over the month of October.
Since October 1, she has helped lead the Nittany Lions to victories over top-20-ranked Michigan State, Purdue, and Wisconsin. She also surpassed 1,000 career kills and 500 career blocks last month. Absolutely deadly on the slide, the 6-foot-3 First Team All-American has a .519 hitting percentage, the best average in the country. Her career hitting percentage ranks third all-time in NCAA Division I history. Against Ohio State on October 6, Washington set a new career high with 20 kills. That night, she also added eight blocks. In the month of October, Washington was named the Big Ten Player of the Week three times."

It would seem the Rettke-WISC/FoW award fuels the conspiracy theory over on VT. 🤔

Somebody named "NotPriddy," believes that the B1G POW selection committee has been infiltrated by Wisconsin alums who pick a lotta Badger players and disrespect other team, particularly Illinois. Sorry you asked?

Sorry you asked? Ha! Good to keep up with VT conspiracy theories! That does beg the question: who does determine B1G POW selections? Pardon my ignorance!

Volleytalk's kinda different from here. I hope DigNittany never becomes like it. We're very lucky to have this place.

What the BLANK!??
PSU blanked in this week's BIG awards. Sort of predictable, but Lee's performance seems notable even if against RU.
