I was curious to see how this year's team stacks up to previous national championship winning teams. It seems that 2014 is the closest year in terms of statistics. The big difference is in aces (as you would've guessed) and opponent hitting percentage. The later stat is what concerns me because the 2017 team is allowing opponents to score too easily (relatively speaking). However, in all other facets of the game, this team looks pretty good. The most important stat is that PSU 2017 is leading the country in hitting percentage. Here's a chart of the stats.

The 2014 team also led the country in hitting percentage.

how many matches did the 14 team win 3-0
we have already blocked more total balls this year than all of 2017?

how many matches did the 14 team win 3-0 we have already blocked more total balls this year than all of 2017? The block problem appears to be that 2017 block assists are counted as "1."

how many matches did the 14 team win 3-0 we have already blocked more total balls this year than all of 2017? Very good question. I've added the 2014 and 2017 team records and the set wins/losses below. Keep in mind, we are about halfway through the 2017 season. So for comparative purposes, we double all 2017 stats in order to compare with 2014. 2014 Team Record W-L Overall: 36-3 Conference: 18-2 Home: 18-1 Away: 10-2 Neutral: 8-0 3 sets: 31-0 4 sets: 4-2 5 sets: 1-1 2017 Team Record W-L Overall: 17-1 Conference: 7-1 Home: 8-1 Away: 4-0 Neutral: 5-0 3 sets: 11-1 4 sets: 3-0 5 sets: 3-0

I have updated the stat chart for 2017 and compared it to 2014 and 2013 in order to see how this year's team stacks up.
Note: For comparative purposes I prepared a 2017 projected stats table. I simply doubled the 2017 stats with a projected 36 total matches played. PSU has played 21 matches this year, and I wanted to get to 18 and double the stats for simplicity. Therefore, I deleted the first 3 non-conference matches, which were the most lopsided wins for PSU.
Let me know what you all think.
It seems to me that there are many stats that match the 2013 team. Here is how the team record (wins/losses) for 2017 is projected to look like compared to actual 2014 and 2013 team records.

I appreciate the extra work involved with doubling the 2017 stats. Personally, I'm not sure that raw numbers are all that important--unless you're looking at something like all-time records. I believe it's easier to stick with /per set type stats.
