Who: Penn State vs. Buffalo When: Friday 8-28-15 (7:00 p.m. ET) Where: Rec Hall Media: No TV; BTNPlus/BTN2Go link ; GameTracker link
OK, a bit early, but let's use this as the Match Day (and evening) discussion thread. Here's a link to our story on DigNittanyVolleyball.com
Part of that article explains that we're hoping to encourage Penn State Head Football Coach James Franklin to come to a match or two. Below is one of the tweets by @wedignittany so far in that effort:

Kinda shaky with passing tonight. Based on my opinion, Holcomb is the Libero and it's her's to lose. Not to sure about setter yet. But I did like Bryanna's setter dumps. Rivera has a nice jump serve. Being left handed, I would like to see her get some kills at net. Also, if she get's those serves in more, she will be a left handed weapon, that other teams love to see LOL!
I think I now know who the two that are banged up. Looks like one Freshman(Tori Gorrell) and one Sophomore (Lainy Pierce) Could have used some of Laniy's serves tonight.

Audio! Video! Sometimes audio and video! Yes!! Audio + Video = Perfection! I loved watching PSU volleyball tonight. I initially thought that Pierce would be Libero, but Holcomb was very impressive! Should be a tough competition between the two of them for the starting job. Both setters looked good, but I really like Weiskircher's height and her connection with the hitters was fantastic tonight. But I get the impression that RR likes Rivera's defense and serve better (esp since he is working with her on a top spin jump serve similar to another setter we may know;-)). Overall, I thought that the Nittany Lions laid a solid foundation tonight for them to grow and improve throughout the season. It was also great to see Blair Brown back on the court in Rec Hall, even if it was just on the bench. And Laura Broerman did a great job doing the play by play. Impressive! FEELS GREAT TO BE WATCHING VOLLEYBALL....OH HOW I'VE MISSED IT!

I agree about Holcomb. And I was so used to watching Micha that is was disconcerting to watch Bryanna and Wilma.

Audio! Video! Sometimes audio and video! I don't like how they turn off sound during match. I would like to hear the crowd sounds throughout the match and not just when he announces points scored. Need to get a commentator during these Penn State BTN Plus matches.

The video quality on BTN2Go was pretty good. I don't know whether to complain about the lack of announcing/commentary or feel fortunate for the minimalist approach.
The first set looked pretty ragged, but PSU's play improved as the match progressed. The veteran front row players all looked good. I haven't seen the stats, but I thought Courtney seemed to be exhibiting more leadership. Her shot selection looked pretty good.
I don't know how Stanford or Colorado will look tonight. I'm glad PSU scheduled the teams they have for this weekend.
Glad to have the opportunity to catch a second game Saturday night. Seeing four of the first five matches this season is great. The dry spell after the Stanford game will be tough.

Somehow, I knew you'd have watched the PAC-12 opponents.

For those interested, tonight's match is up now on Video Jukebox. May take a couple of hours until best quality is available.

Stanford was unrecognizable. So many subs- so many blonde braided ponytails. They relied entirely on their pin hitters...(Lutz has dressed but out with a hand injury- was hitting during warmups) Their OPP Hodson will be a much needed addition. Howard is much improved. Burgess looks less impressive than usual (I'll chalk that up to not having any middle production). Bugg was a hitting option during a rotation...It was all just weird.

We've posted our Match Recap and Post-Match Quotes on this link at DigNittanyVolleyball.
Here are the Post-Match Quotes:
Coach Rose
I thought Bryanna [Weiskircher] looked a little more comfortable out there [than Rivera], but that’s not surprising, it’s Wilma’s first match, playing in front of a big crowd, with the band, but that’s why you play matches like that at home first, because you really don’t know the unknowns.
I thought Keeton [Holcomb] came in and did a nice job passing in the last two games.
Bryanna and Haleigh [Washington] are our best two servers. . . .Haleigh had one ace and two errors That’s an accepted ratio in the sport of volleyball, but [her two errors] were hit for distance so she’s got to work on that.
Aiyana Whitney — on adjusting to different setters
Of course there is a difference — everyone has a different touch on the ball. It was mostly about trying to stay consistent in what we were trying to do and let them [Weiskircher and Rivera] work their way into the match.
Haleigh Washington -- on adjusting to different setters and her off-season preparation

I actually think Lainy Pierce may eventually be the libero and best server. I had hoped to see Jelena Novakovic play but I guess she will redshirt. I really miss Micha. Heidi Thelen played a good match and will be M2 if she continues this way.
