Just for fun I looked at the first 3 games of last year and compared to this year. Of course different opponents, different players(some) but same goal. I will try to keep this up at least until B1G play. 2014 3 matches - Hitting % .444 SA 10 SE 27 RE 1 Dig 100 Blocks 22 2015 3 matches - Hitting % .325 SA 12 SE 19 RE 9 Dig 127 Block 34.5 projected with X 36 matches(or so left) = 228 Service errors. 72 less than last year! close to 1 of my Wild predictions.

Those are very interesting stats. It makes sense to me that hitting percentage is down with new setters. I wouldn't have expected that big of a disparity on blocking. Then again, small sample size.

I think the blocking differential may be due to 2 things. Heidi thelen had 17 1/2 blocks over the weekend; 16 in the first 2 matches. Seems to be a natural, although one must also consider the competition. Also, the blocking at the beginning of last year wasn't too good. I don't have statistics, but I believe that Whitney, Lee and Franti had difficulty getting a handle on blocking at the first. Fortunately, they got it together at the end of the year such that when looking at the yearly totals you hardly noticed the slow start.

And as you said, it did get better--so much so that the team blocked at a higher rate against the B1G than during the "pre-season." If you want to find the stats, you can check on DigNittany's site or PSU's.
Next week will provide a pretty good gauge of where the team is.
