Nice job! In case anyone is wondering, here's what happened in 2015 against Howard (and what Coach Rose had to say about it): Wayback Machine (Just as a Reminder — December 2015) On a night when the unseeded Loyola Marymount Lions swept #6-seeded Stanford in a 2nd-round matchup, the 3-0 win (25-16, 25-8, 25-17) by #7-seed Penn State (27-5) over Howard (18-14) looks pretty good. After the match, Penn State’s Head Coach Russ Rose said he saw some good things from Penn State and some not-so-good things. Oh, and he warned that if Penn State doesn’t play better . . . against its 2nd round opponent . . . . the Nittany Lions season will end. That’s what happened against Howard the last time out — Round 1 of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Here’s hoping this year’s team plays a good match, no injuries, and moves on. Not looking ahead, but I'm at the VCU-Pitt match,and will post a bit about it as that match progresses. Just using the eye-test, VCU is small'ish (only two players over 6-0). But they did lead the NCAA in blocking (or so I've read) so they must do something right. Oh, and they swept Virginia and Northwestern, and beat Dayton twice (3-2 both times). So, they've got some game. Pitt won the ACC, swept Notre Dame and Florida State, beat Florida State 3-1, beat Miami 3-1 (twice), and lost to Louisville 2-3 (at Louisville). They're a bigger team (four players 6-1 or taller). And they've got some game too.

I really like the VCU band. Would like their team to win for that reason alone.  Pitt takes game 1, 25-14. Pitt hit .316 and VCU hit .029. VCU did have 5.0 total team blocks to 1 team block for Pitt. |

When VCU breaks from a time-out, one of the bench players raises an oar (with a yellow paddle -- the VCU color) and they all yell "fight!" Sort of like the Eagle standard for Roman legions, I guess. They pound the paddle on the floor when they like something that has taken place on the court. I don't think the Roman legions did that.
The paddle seems to be working in game 2 -- 21-19 Pitt (which just called timeout).
But Pitt rallies and takes game 2 by 25-20.
And the VCU band it still really, really good. They are jamming now, going absolutely wild!
Pitt hit .433 in game 2. VCU hit .273.
