I believe I will have the opportunity in Kansas City to ask coaches Rose, Cook, Wise and/or Hambly (and possibly one or two of their players) a question or two (or none) at pre-match press conferences about this year's Tournament, their players, the opposing players/coaches, the Tournament generally, women's volleyball generally. If you have a short question (respectful) for a coach and/or player, add it here (and name the coach or player ). I may not have the opportunity to use them, but I'm interested in your thoughts. I need them by Tuesday night. Keep them simple/to the point.

Yes Where is Michaela Putnicki Thanks for responding However, I am virtually certain that Coach Rose is not going to answer that, and given that she only played in three sets all year, it's not relevant to the NCAA Tournament, so I think I'll pass on that one. Got anything about the matchup with Nebraska, or the players that Penn State has been playing, or anything about the Tournament in general or past Tournaments?

Nice to know that there's someone we trust to ask the tough questions. Wish I could think of one... Later
Silly question for John Cook: What kind of mints do you keep in your pocket? And do you wash your hands before you give them to your staff? (At least it's not a pickle in his pocket)

I'd be curious to know what coach thinks regarding:
1) Offense (attack efficiency and kills) vs defense (blocks and digs). Which of those typically carries a team to wins (ie, success) in volleyball?
2) Where serving fall under: Offense or defense?
3) What stats he thinks are most important for success. Example, I have found that attack % and blocking numbers were very high for previous PSU championship teams.

For Coach Rose and/or Coach Cook: Sort of a variation on Millenium's: What in "readily available statistics" explains PSU's and Nebraska's success--they both went 19-1 in the B1G, but there are differences in their performance. It would seem that there might be different approaches to achieve success. It would also seems that the approaches are dictated by personnel capabilities and coaching philosophy. Coach Rose: How would you describe the difference in approach and their manifestation by Coach Cook? Coach Cook, the same question regarding Coach Rose?
Regarding the 2017 PSU 6-2 Offense: PSU led the NCAA in hitting percentage with their 6-2* offense. With Bryanna Weiskircher returning next year, do you envision a return to the 6-2, a move back to a traditional 5-1, or it's too early to say?

A 2009 NYT article on the program quoted Alisha Glass as saying Coach has a "degree in volleyball statistics or something." M Hodge responded, surprised, 'that explains a lot.'
The volumes of binders in your office bear out that you think stats are critical to your job of coaching.
How important is it for players to understand statistics -- at least start to grasp what you see -- in order to excel?

that's right. I thought what his championship players knew/didn't know and understood about it was revealing.

What do you think about this one (shoutout to Nitneliun for raising this in another thread!): Is there a point at which a scouting report becomes too detailed, and the players have information overload?

Good question, but how many non-volleyball players actually know how detailed a scouting report is?
