No way! I'm sure Russ would rather finish 0-20 in the B1G than go after this year's "shiny object." I (as usual) have no idea whether Coach Rose did try to get her, or didn't. There also may have been an issue with scholarship availability. Finally, she may have simply preferred the Nebraska hoopla etc. to the Coach Rose understated approach. And, there is -- we have to admit it -- a certain cachet that comes with being the reigning NCAA Champions. There's also certain cachet with being a four in a row NCAA champion and a perennial contender to win another one. Shoot, in last seasons semi final match against Nebraska PSU had match point on Nebraska and only the flukiest of fluke happenstances, two PSU players running into each other on a pinpoint PERFECT pass to the front row, resulted in Nebraska surviving that elimination moment. It would be interesting to query RR on this Lexi subject. He seems to have gotten his girl, Taylor Leath, with the transfer from in from UNC.

The good news is, "Right now incoming freshman Nicklin Hames is the only setter on the [Nebraska] roster." I am a bad person! IIRC, the last true freshman setter to set her team to a national championship was Nebraska's Rachel Holloway. That being said, also IIRC , Holloway is one of only two true freshman setters to ever do that. Nebraska will be good, coach Cook like coach Rose, usually has his team as one of the most improved teams from the start of the VB season to the finish.

If Hames is better then perhaps Nebraska may be good enough to actually repeat.

If Hames is better then perhaps Nebraska may be good enough to actually repeat. Sometime I will provide more about myself, but I will say I was able to be around last year's N team several times a week and was at 25 of their matches; and have been around the program since 2005. The 2017 team had the best comradery/chemistry of any college sports team I ever watched. So many kids today are about themselves, but that group seemed to genuinely not only enjoy each other, but didn't seem to care who was playing so long as they won. I am sure this was a huge part of their success. How else can you explain getting beat by Northern Iowa and 6 days later traveling to State College and winning in a 3-0 sweep? A long way to make my point, but Hames, IMO, is going to be great, play great, but will the 2018 team mesh like the 2017 team did? Unless Cook found something that every coach in the history of sports has tried to bottle, I would guess not. Will Nebraska be good? Of course they will. Just as Penn State, no matter who or how many they lost to graduation, will be good. They both recruit the best players and both of their incoming classes are fantastic. I don't know if they will ever play a match as good as the 2007 match was, but everytime they play it is great. JMHO

Thanks for the insight. Do you expect to have the same level of access for the coming season?

JMHOI ab I absolutely agree that chemistry is very important for a national championship run. You cannot get there by athleticism alone.

Does Nebraska have a volleyball site for its fans? Those who know (slacker staff?) could indicate why non-PSU volleyball fans would want to post on a dig Nittany site. Thanks!

LOL. . .I have no idea. . .After the Rolfsons, Orantes and Malloy left a year ago I just wanted them to get to the second week of the tournament. I suspect they will be very good, but its just a guess. I do hope the Penn St and Nebraska play twice.

There's a lot of media attention on Nebraska volleyball, so it really doesn't need a separate site. Personally, I'm thrilled that Nebraska (the new member) has joined us. My observation: really solid citizen who happens to have a different rooting interest than most of us do. One of my favorite posters on VT was a Nebraska fan -- also a solid citizen and good person. I'm confident we'll all enjoy the different perspectives and be respectful to each other (reading that, I sound like something out of a satire of a Disney movie. It's been a long day). Love, peace and volleyball!
