Who would have guessed Minnesota goes 0-2 this weekend. I still think they are the best team in the B1G followed by Wisconsin. Penn State might be third. Oh my goodness! What might our friends from Nebraska say?

I didn't see either match, but I certainly was shocked by the loss to Oregon. Any thoughts on how it happened, pennstate1973? I saw a rerun of the match and I believe that Minnesota was up by at least 2 points in the 1st two sets and then gave up 4 point runs to Oregon to lose. Oregon didn't outplay Minnesota by much. (All of the games were 25-23). Minnesota also gave up a six point run to Stanford when up 21-19. Minnesota seems to have difficulty closing out a match. Not sure if that's because of bad matchups or what.

Went back and checked the play-by-play for the two matches:
Against Oregon - Minnesota was up 22-19 in game two against Oregon and were out scored by Oregon 6 to 1. In game 4 Minn was up 22-21 and were outscored 4-1.
Against Stanford - Minnesota was up 22-19 in game one and were out scored by Stanford 6 to 1 with the 1 point for Minnesota in both games being an error by Stanford. Minn was up 22-18 in game four and was out scored by Stanford 7-1 with the lone point coming on an error by Stanford.

I think Penn State was also up by 2 points near the end of the 1 set against Stanford and allowed Stanford to go on a 4-0 run to close it out 25-23. I really think if we played them yesterday instead of Friday we may have taken that set. On the other hand, had we played Oregon on Friday, we may have struggled. Oh well. On to next weekend and the B1G schedule.

It is a long season. and we should not rush to judgement over one weekend. I see a bright future for our ladies, but it is a process and if we want someone to steer the ship I will take Russ Rose.
