Are there ways teams can prepare defense against tips and dumps? They were destroying PSU.
They played much smarter is sets 3 and 4.
It's like we were fighting a swarm of ants with sledgehammers.

I'm surprised to learn American has nine losses. We made them look good.

I'm surprised to learn American has nine losses. We made them look good. I think PSU is vulnerable to certain types of attacks and American executed these attacks quite well. PSU played with power and athleticism (PSU looked pretty ragged in sets 3 and 4), they played with discipline and intellect.

Oh the ups and downs of fandom! Just reading this thread, we went from potential national champs to big trouble. I'm not criticizing. I reacted the same way. But things are never as good as they seem when they are going well nor as bad as they seem when they are going poorly. This certainly wasn't the teams best effort of the season, but let's hope they rise to the occasion in Minneapolis.
I thought the video production was first rate. It was well directed and the announcers were very smooth and knowledgeable.

I recall an interview with Coach Rose in which he attributed the "things are never as good as they seem when they are going well nor as bad as they seem when they are going poorly" to Coach Paterno. That viewpoint/explanation represents wisdom. When I'm "in the moment," watching a close game, I lose sight of a calmer, more considered perspective. It's cathartic to go through the roller coaster and I can't seem to get past it. Let's hope the team is more emotionally resilient that I, or is it me?

Never as bad as you think you are when you … win ugly? Coach warned us that there would be ups and downs relying on so many Freshmen. On a positive note, J. Parker had 17 kills, and we hit for a high percentage. Oh, and we did win too.
I hope Nia is ok. Not sure why Gorrell did not play either. We need them both.

Did American have a morning match like we did?

Well said.
The video production gets an A+.

Yes, Middle blocker stays with the setter (but that leaves the outsides open) and the off hitter can be stationed closer to the block to get some tips (but not all, the defender behind the block can move in too, but that leaves space behind)

If it's any consolation folks, Nebraska (who had to play a doubleheader yesterday) lost a set in the late match yesterday to New Mexico.
