Here's a quick recap of Penn State's weekend road trip to Washington, D.C., which saw the Nittany Lions sweep Howard and Buffalo and beat American 3-1. Freshmen Jonni Parker, Allyson Cathey, and Serena Gray all set new career highs in kills Saturday.
Which player impressed you the most? What do you make of Penn State's tough third set against American? I'm interested to hear what everyone has to say. Thanks!

Do you know what happened to Nia Reed during the American match?
Also, has Tori Gorrell been injured?

Nia Reed was in sweat pants, Maybe she injured herself. She does have a history of that. Tori was in uniform but never saw the court. Could it be that Kaitlyn and Serena are now the middles and she has been moved to a backup role.

Even if Gorrell is in a back up role, I think she might have seen the court at some point in this tourney. There were a few situations where more experience might have come in handy. Plus, let's not forget about her serve!
It was not surprising to me that the team missed Nia's hitting. Allison Cathey did quite well as a replacement, but so far as my untutored eyes can tell, Nia hits the hardest ball on the team for now. There are times when raw power can get a team out of jams.

As far as raw power goes Allison, Kaitlyn, and Serena are just fine and Jonny is right there too.

My thought was that Nia could have helped stop some of our opponent's runs. This is not a criticism of those who did play.

My thought was that Nia could have helped stop some of our opponent's runs. This is not a criticism of those who did play. I did not think you were being critical of any of the players. I just thought Nia while having exceptional power was not the only one. |
