Check out the transcript from Tuesday's media availability at Rec Hall. Coach Rose and freshman right side/middle blocker Amanda Phegley spoke before practice.

I like that Coach says that the problem has been identified, and that it is fixable.
Of course, the caveat follow up to that was,
"It’s going to take time to make progress with that, but that’s probably not atypical for some players. I’ve had some players as freshmen that have been able to navigate some of the challenges better, but it also might just be that the sheer numbers of them make it a little more challenging. We have so many people on the floor right now, so that certainly is a factor.”
And, "The Big Ten portion of the season is probably not the time to be tinkering with the lineup, but that’s the reality that we’re looking at.”

I like that Coach says that the problem has been identified, and that it is fixable. I'm hoping that he's done a better job identifying the problem (and its solution) for the team than he has for us.

Well as much as we might think (wish?) differently, Coach does not owe us a specific explanation. Among other things, that would be giving inside information to opponents.
As a group we fans have been spoiled by the long term success of our team and coach. That can lead the fan base to be too quick to criticize or judge. I am schooling myself to enjoy each match as they come, and not worry about what a win or loss might mean for later in the season. So for example, I am excited that I can easily watch both matches this weekend (Friday on BTN and Sunday on ESPNU). I hope we will see improvement across the board.

I didn't expect Coach Rose to share his "deep thoughts" with us, let alone his passing fancies. I'm just having fun with the words. The coach has identified "THE PROBLEM." That could be a good thing if it's the kind of problem that can be solved by different personnel combinations or approaches to the game. It could still be a good thing but solving the problem might require experience and time. It could be a complex problem that involves all sorts of permutations and combinations. Based on the information we've been provided, I can't imagine that any of us know. We can watch this weekend's games and it's a bonus that they're on the BTN and ESPNU. Maybe we'll have enough sophistication to identify how Coach Rose endeavors to address the problem.
