Gorrell went in at the end of the third, had 2 kills and 2 blocks. Weiskircher took some impressive swings on the right side. Serve receive was wonderful tonight. Cathey went into a set and took great swings. Blossom looked masterful, she is really so talented. I would definitely say that she is not even close to 5’10 from seeing her in person. It could have just been the angle. I’ll be there tomorrow, too!

It's a little surprising to win -16 -15 -16 but only hit .250. Termination seems to be a persistent problem. The two most impressive frosh so far this season, Hord and Gray had tough nights. Nice to see Parker and Cathey step up.
I think Reed and Parker both hit over .500 tonight. Yeah, team hitting is horrible this year. We will have a tough time against better teams.

Apparently, they finished with 12, but hit only .250. So, was it a hard-fought match against a really scrappy Terps team, or a sloppy match by Penn State, or both? I vote for sloppy match by Penn State. Maryland with impressive defense. Many long rallies but Penn State had the upper hand.

So, is Blossom closer to 5'9" or 5'11"?

I think "horrible" is way too harsh in describing the hitting. Actuallly, I think the middles and Parker, although inconsistent, have had some really good games. So I'd say the hitting has been inconsistent. Leath's hitting has been a puzzle to me -- sometimes she looks brilliant, other times . . . not so much.

I should have clarified... "horrible" if we expect to win the natty.
I know, I know... high expectations and all, but while I'm dreamin' I like to dream B1G!!

They definitely need to be more consistent.

But not closer to 5'8", right?
Ehhh I don’t know about that. It may have just been the angle, but she looked in the 5’7-5’8 range. I’ll try to get a better look tomorrow. I’m sure that a lot of setters marked as 5’10 are actually shorter.

I’m sure that a lot of setters marked as 5’10 are actually shorter. I think alot of athletes are shorter than their listed heights. The most important question is "Can they play?". From everything Coach Rose has said, Gabby Blossom can play (though he has also said, don't mike her up for the game 😀)

I feel really good about Blossom's ability as a player; however, I keep thinking about something I heard a while back: "You can't teach height."
Although, it's interesting to note that Hancock's jump reach increased dramatically after she went pro. So, jumping high can be worked on.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, It's the size of the fight in the dog. Sorry about the dog reference, I certainly don't mean our ladies are dog's. It's just a metaphor.

I'm disappointed that Maryland no longer has those flag-based kneepads. If I understand correctly, around 2014, Kevin Planck (?), UMD grad and founder of Underarmour, came in with a revamp of all the UMD unis. That included the cool knee pads and, in football, I think about 7 different iterations of the MD coat of arms-type state flag. Not to universal acclaim. Guess things are now slowly heading back to boring.

Would anyone, politely, care to critique Adam Hughes? UMD has been stronger v PSU in the recent past, but Adam lost a lot of firepower in the wake of that other guy going to IN...
