Here's a recap of tonight's sweep of the Buckeyes in front of 4,406 at Rec Hall. Russ Rose, Nia Reed, and Bryanna Weiskircher shared their thoughts following the victory.

I like this part most: "Nia Reed led the Nittany Lions to victory with a career-high 15 kills against the Buckeyes, who beat Russ Rose’s squad 3-1 earlier this season in Columbus. Taylor Leath and Kaitlyn Hord both hit over .385 for the Nittany Lions in what was one of the team’s most consistent nights offensively. Leath, Hord, Serena Gray, and Jonni Parker combined for 25 kills in the win."
Also, these two quotes are key:
"Coach Rose on how this year’s team differs:
“We have to serve tough. We’re not an overpowering team. We have to get good touches at the net and we have to try and get the ball to our middles. This team is just put together differently than some other teams that we’ve had. The goal is to try and find the best recipe for success.”
Bryanna Weiskircher on Nia Reed:
“She’s kind of the Energizer Bunny. She’s very excited whenever she’s out there on the court. I think it helps everyone feel confident and ready to go also. She’s someone that the block has to pay attention to, so it also opens up for the other hitters. I think she does a great job"

The quotes from Nia are worrisome. Especially, " I always want to kill the ball, but knowing that at any point it could be your last swing, it really gives you that extra drive for sure." Does anyone know what she is dealing with?

Does anyone know what she is dealing with? 1 took that to mean that having just been injured, she's more aware of how things can end without warning. I didn't take it to mean her injury has put her one play away from having her career end.

Actually, from Coach's comments earlier in the week about the limitations on how much Reed's in the game and limits on her practice time -- he has a numeric limit for her -- makes me think there is indeed a problem and that we're one misstep away. Don't want to speculate; but reread Coach's comments from before last night.
That said, she looks so good.

And I agree, she looks good.

Slowly the team is getting more competitive each week and now I am getting excited at how well the freshmen are playing.

The great news is that there are obvious things that can and will improve. It seems pretty clear that the ladies have the athleticism and individual skills to be successful. Putting it all together is and will remain a work in progress.
