There was good news and bad news for Micha Hancock at the world tournament. Micha spent all of the tournament playing behind starting setter, Carli Lloyd. But, after the USA lost in five sets to China and were trailing significantly in the first set against the Netherlands, coach, Karch Kiraly, inserted Micha into the setter position and the USA stormed back to win the set 32-30. Micha would remain as the setter for the rest of the match.
The bad news is that, after the USA took the second set 25-15, everything went downhill as the Netherlands came back 22-25, 15-25, 9-15 to eliminate the United States from the tournament. The final four are China, Netherlands, Italy and Serbia.
There are still some voices on Volleytalk insisting that Lauren Carlini should be the setter for the United States. But, even on VT, there is growing respect for Micha's talents and competitiveness. Of course, Karch continues to get hammered on VT.

Thanks for the summary. Reading through page after page on Volleytalk can get tedious. I especially like hearing that Micha had some bright spots. I think she's a fighter and a winner, but I'm just a homer and too ignorant to appreciate Wisconsin's former setter.

The love for Cheesehead Jesus is just ridiculous. She has never out-performed Micha and Carli. She has been given opportunities, but never rises to the occasion.
As for Volleytalk, I took a visit to VT today for the first time since last year. The stupidity is even greater now than the last time I visited. Just reading through the thread on the most recent AVCA poll made my head explode.

You're right, the main complaint on VT these days is the coach and his system.
Also, VT'ers are focusing less on the setting for the national team versus the hitting nowadays. People are coming to the realization that a new setter is not going to fix the problems that the team has. Players have to be chosen based on the system and coaching.
I personally think that the USA will not be very good until we get a pro league, which may never happen. There are inherent benefits to having a domestic pro league: 1)More players (in our huge player pool) would have a chance to develop, not only the ones who decide to further their careers by going oversees. 2) Younger players would develop better and faster by signing pro contracts direct, instead of going to college teams.
3) Domestic coaches would get better, which we could then look towards to lead the national team.

She has performed pretty well for the national team, and in an interview Micha did some time back, she talked about what a great teammate Carlini is. I did not see any of the matches in this tournament, so can't comment on what went wrong this time. But in matches I have seen over the last year, I would say that Micha and Carli are a little better than Carlini, but that all three have improved. Each brings a little something different to the table.

Micha knows how to talk to the media about her teammates, but I can tell you from people who are very close to Micha, Cheesehead Jesus and Micha are not friends. That is putting it mildly.

Micha is a great competitor for sure, but it's got to be difficult for her to jump as high as Carlini and Carli when she's carrying the weight of those 2 National Championship rings!

I don’t think carlini ever beat Hancock in college. I always thought carlini was overrated. She was a very good college setter but people were making her out to be like the greatest player that ever lived and that can hurt trying to live up to those expectations which prob wasn’t fair but what in life is

And your right she is not in the same class as Micha and Carli
