Thanks Millennium! Appreciate the data and comparisons. I'm from Chicago and am planning to go to this game. PSU should take them in 3, but I hope that PSU isn't caught looking forward to the ILL game. Looks like PSU has an advantage in pretty much everything except service aces. NW does have an advantage in opp digs. Not sure what that means. NW is a young team and so is probably liable to errors and inconsistent play, like PSU sometimes is but probably more so. It could be that NW young'uns may play better than PSU young'uns as they may be up when playing PSU where as PSU probably won't be all that excited about playing NW. I guess we'll see . I'm guessing that we could see a sloppy game from PSU. Hopefully I'm wrong.

From what I can tell, in the stats, NW is a good serving team, but a poor passing team.
That should ultimately work in our favor, because we are a fairly good serving and passing team.
The one that perplexes me is that NW's opponents have less digs than our team.
I'm assuming that's because NW's opponents have more success blocking them, therefore, don't need to dig as many balls.
The most important thing is that NW is not know for their offense, so we shouldn't have much of a problem with them. I expect the girls to play well and that we win with a sweep.

Could another factor be because NW hitting errors preclude the need for their opponents to dig?

Norhwestern has had a tough season and it is a good one for us to regain our momentum for Illinois. Hopefully Russ will get over his disappointment and inspire the team for the remainder of the season.

Call your bump and raise you a bump. Plus: SERIES HISTORY vs. Northwestern Penn State has a 52-9 all-time record over Northwestern, and a 25-5 record when playing at Northwestern. However, this will be the first meeting between the two squads at Walsh-Ryan Arena. Northwestern's last win came in the 2015 season in Evanston. Last Ten Results - Northwestern 11/10/12 25-16, 25-16, 25-16 W H 10/20/13 25-17, 25-15, 25-17 W A 11/22/13 25-17, 25-18, 31-33, 25-20 W H 10/08/14 25-20, 25-17, 25-17 W H 11/26/14 25-20, 25-23, 25-23 W A 10/10/15 18-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-17, 12-15 L A 11/25/15 25-18, 25-14, 26-24 W H 09/25/16 27-25, 25-17, 25-17 W A 11/25/16 25-23, 25-23, 25-16 W H 9/30/17 26-24, 25-14, 25-14 W H Also, we appear to be doing fairly well with the block. That "digs" stat -- while impressive -- would seem to me to result from long rallies -- which suggests we haven't been consistently terminal. Team Defense Penn State leads the Big Ten in blocks per set at 2.94, which is good for fifth in the nation. The Nittany Lions are also killing the floor defense game as well. Penn State is currently averaging 14.89 digs per set, which if the season ended today, would crush the 25-point rally scoring era record of 14.72 which was set in 2010.
