And yet who recruited Chicoine, and who lost her? I don't know who on the prior staff was her main recruiter, but when she committed to Purdue, I recall reading an article that stated that Chloe signed up for PSU to play for RR... so I think when he retired she moved on as well. (I also recall reading that she officially decommitted in Dec - prior to KSC's hire - so her decommitment shouldn't be a reflection on our new HC.) I think that's essentially correct, dc155. So I don't think it's fair to ask "who lost her." I suspect many coaches would agree that when they were able to start contacting kids in their freshman years, and kids were committing in their freshman or sophomore years, that many never had the chance (or at least took advantage of the chance) to think things through and fully, thoughtfully, explore their opportunities. I spoke recently with a woman who was recruited by, and played for, RR years ago. She had a pretty good freshman season on a talented team. At the end of the season she started to think about how her decision had been influenced by her Penn State-centric family and her Penn State obsessed community. She went to RR and told him she was honored to have been recruited by him, was extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to play on a team coached by him, but she wanted to try something different. He asked her if she had any specific schools in mind, and she said yes, there was one. He picked up the phone, called the coach of the team, and that coach offered this person a full scholarship, on the spot. She went on to play for that team, and be a captain of that team -- after sitting out a season (because, no transfer portal). RR did the standup thing for a standup player. But this former-player is all in for the new rules limiting recruiting until, effectively, the summer before a player's juinior season. So with respect to Cloe Chicoine, instead of asking who "lost her," I'd ask, "how in the world did Purdue let her get away in the first place?" Finally, and not meant to limit any discussion here, but I personally am only interested in players who want to play for Penn State. Chloe doesn't. So I really am not interested in her except if/when she plays on U.S. National teams, or if/when she plays against Penn State.

In this chain, you will see someone smeared RR as the person who could not relate to 'today's players,' after a lengthy discussion of Chicoine. It implied that now that RR is out of the way, we may have better fortunes. My point was that RR recruited CC. Based on the account of another of his recruits from Ohio (class of '24 IIRC), w/whom RR was directly involved, I'd assume he was w/CC as well. We don't know what CC knew and when she knew it.

I do think RR was the prime reason for CC's commitment (I don't know that -- just guessing). I saw a picture of him at some point at one of her matches. I suspect he was there for more than just the opportunity to find out who would win. Like you, I'm very tired of the RR smears. He was the greatest of all time IMHO (and that of alot of others). Let's leave it at that. Right now I'm following wrestling, where Cael's bunch are doing a great job (and crushing Nebraska, I might add): gopsusports.com/news/2022/3/18/wrestling-penn-state-perfect-in-national-quarterfinals-lions-send-6-to-semis.aspx(I know there's a wrestling thread, but I couldn't resist. )

SIAP -- VolleyballMag.com included two Penn State 2022 commits in its Fab 50 list for 2022 (hint: their first names are Katie and Alexa). Here's the link: volleyballmag.com/2022-girls-fab-50-031722/They haven't quite caught up to where Katie is committed. But we''re happy to correct them -- it is Penn State.

Excellent article. Gillian seems like a thoughtful and positive person. I look forward to seeing her play for Penn State in 2022 and beyond.

VolleyballMag.com (@vbmagazine) Tweeted: "This week's girls club volleyball Dream Team is up. Who made Tawa's list?" One is particularly noteworthy for PSU fans: RS: Alexa Markley, 6-2 RS, A5 Mizuno 18-Marc (GA) — On a team filled with offensive superstars, Markley is the silent assassin. She seems to terminate every set sent her way. Last weekend at MEQ, Markley led A5 in hitting at .470 and was the team’s blocking leader with 18. “She wasn’t afraid to take the big swing for a point when needed,” said coach Marc Jones. Does anyone think Kayla Burbage from Mizzou could be on PSU's radar? She reportedly entered the transfer portal recently and within the last couple of days has followed Allie Holland with Allie following back. She was a starter for Mizzou but her numbers were not incredible or anything. Would add some nice depth in the middle though!

I doubt it, if only because PSU already has three (or four, depending on where you think Katie Clark will play) middles.
