Colorado Juniors 16 greatly improved last weekend in SLC. Tawa did a nice piece on her for Volleyballmag.com saying CJ16 went 10-0 and Starck was the big star. This will get them to the Nationals. Excellent! Thanks for the info. Volleyballmag.com has an article today ranking Chloe Chicoine top five in the country for non-senior prep players. I know it's water under the bridge. I point it out to show Penn State WVB still appeals to the most elite players. It's up to the new coaching staff to convince young players to come to State College which I'm confident they will do.

I think the flip today of Gillian Grimes from Michigan State to Penn State shows that Katie has some recruiting chops. And everything I have heard is that Gillian is the real deal. Of course, time will tell on all of this. |

Watching Chloe Chicoine play in person is an electric experience. I still wonder if her game necessarily transfers as a front-row player in college but she's elite in all phases. She unmistakably stands out from a crowd of thousands of players in a convention center. She prowls the court like a predator, moves differently than everyone else, and her leaping ability is off the charts. After watching her play up close a few times, my daughter declared Chicoine as her favorite player. I suspect, she will always be one of the tough ones to see get away. It would be great to see Penn State be able to recruit at that elite level again - they're close but not quite attracting the very top players. Recent transfer and recruit additions by KSC are VERY good signs. By contrast, RR's recent interview on the Master Coach show gives a revealing look at his attitude towards todays players, and the evidence speaks for itself on how it's worked on the court in recent years. I continue to be very optimistic about the direction for Penn State volleyball. |

I don't know who on the prior staff was her main recruiter, but when she committed to Purdue, I recall reading an article that stated that Chloe signed up for PSU to play for RR... so I think when he retired she moved on as well. (I also recall reading that she officially decommitted in Dec - prior to KSC's hire - so her decommitment shouldn't be a reflection on our new HC.) |
