Uhhh... Well, I went back and read Cathey's recruiting post on this very website. It actually makes clear she was a huge fan of PSU. Why was this Prep 100 player such a late entry (January 2018)? Not sure. Penn State had a need going forward at OH, Allyson had potential, Coach Rose is very persuasive.

We haven't always stuck our 6'4" players at Middle. IIRC Blair Brown played Opp her entire career.

For anyone wondering, Allyson Cathey has landed at Butler to continue her volleyball career.

Regarding recruiting for 2020, while the dead period has been extended recruits have been committing to schools throughout the summer. PrepVolleyball.com recently posted their top 150 recruits for 2021 through 2023. According to their 2022 rankings, of the top 50 the only recruits that have not made a verbal commitment are numbers 7, 8, 10, 13, 14, 17, 20, 29, 33-35, 37, 38, 41, 45 & 49. Nebraska has snagged numbers 1 and 6; Minnesota numbers 3, 15 and 21. Baylor has numbers 4 & 5. Stanford that has no verbals yet because they cannot announce any recruits until they’ve been academically accepted, about a year out, will likely, in my opinion, secure the 7th and 8th ranked recruits.
So, unfortunately it certainly appears that the Lions are badly lagging in securing the recruiting class they need for 2022.
BTW: According to Prepvolleyball’s rankings, Nebraska has secured the top 3 ranked recruits for 2021.

Nebraska on paper is going to be the most talented team in the country for many years to come.

Looking at the MaxPreps AA List, this entry stuck out for 2022 (one of the few juniors that made the list):
OH — Carlie Rzeszotarski, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) 6-0 | Jr. | Undecided Blasting 523 kills — the second highest single-season total in school history — as a sophomore and led the Spartans to a 44-6 mark and Class A state crown. She added 278 digs and 52 aces and should pass the 1,000 career kill mark this season.
A little undersized for an OH, but given the stats cited, she looks like a baller and a natural leader, someone Russ would love to coach.

Yes, by position Sam is the top ranked MB for 2021. Also by position, Nebraska has the top ranked setter (Orr), the top two (Krause and Batenhorst) and sixth ranked (Lauenstein) OHs, and the top ranked Libero (Rodriguez), but no middles (guess they don’t need any).

Nebraska's Orr has committed to start at Nebraska spring semester and play the spring season if there is one. Krause and Batenhorst have also expressed an interest in playing at Nebraska spring semester. The spring season doesn't count against their four years of eligibility.
