So according to Volleytalk Cathey has entered the transfer portal.

Always take these things with a grain of salt. There were rumors that Tori Gorrell would transfer before her senior season and look how that turned out. Cathey is listed on the program’s 2020 roster. Penn State doesn’t publicize incoming or outgoing transfers, so until anything is announced from another school, I always treat it like an unsubstantiated rumor. She still has Penn State volleyball in her Twitter and Instagram bios.

If she did enter the portal, it is probably the same situation Cami May found herself in before the start of the 2018 season, when she saw Kaitlyn and Serena coming in and realized her playing time would be minimal. If that's the case I wish her all the luck in the world, may she succeed where ever she goes.

I thought she was a solid player that was improving. She would have been an asset to the team even if she was not able to retain her starting position. Hopefully this is a sign that the new players are showing well at practice. Best of luck to her in the future.

Thanks for the updates, everyone. Best of luck to Allyson wherever she lands. She was always kind and pleasant to deal with during interviews the last two years.

The team hasn't started practice yet, have they? I thought the NCAA didn't allow practice to begin until typically about the second week in August.

IIRC, Cathey was a late entry to PSU during the last year of her high school career. Cannot remember where she had originally been headed, but it seemed that she and her support system were agile in finding the right fit. I contrast that to others who knew they were going to be PSU or bust since middle school. To log the numbers she did A) with the injury and B) in the B1G, attest to her strength as a player. Miss her already. Hope she has a blast wherever she goes.

Uhhh... Well, I went back and read Cathey's recruiting post on this very website. It actually makes clear she was a huge fan of PSU. Why was this Prep 100 player such a late entry (January 2018)? Not sure.
