Well then IMHO, those are not fans, they are bandwagon riders, to be a fan is to suffer the good with the bad, I have a Doctorate in this having been a Steelers fan from the 50s to the present day, and in all that time I have never considered jumping ship, even this year.

This site, and especially this forum, are a welcome haven from sites like Volleytalk.

My wife is a Steelers fan too-not a crime (or so I have been told, repeatedly). I think there is a certain pride in being a die-hard supporter. Moreover, sometimes there is more to talk about when the team for whom we are rooting does not win all of the time. And when the team does win, it can be all the more exciting (though I do hope we don't have to wait as long for a Championship as Cubs or Red Sox fans!)

This is just one fewer player in the portal than the football team has--and that's a team with more than 100 athletes on the roster that is widely seen as being in near crisis after losing 5 of its last seven games and its DC. Moreover, of the four football players in the portal, only one was an occasional starter. I am quite curious about what would motivate these particular players to consider transferring. On this team, they are the leaders and certain to be starters. I am not at all sure that all of these players would find a similar situation with one of the other top schools (by which I mean those teams with legitimate aspirations for a national championship). Of course Texas would pay them better, but there are only so many spots on that team. Some have speculated that there may be graduate programs that would be attractive. Others have suggested that the ladies are testing the market so to speak. I think it unlikely that these players don't like the coaches, since they could have left earlier ala Serena Gray. Perhaps someday we will learn what went on here, but like player injuries, maybe not. I certainly wish them well and appreciate the way each has represented the University.

Well, I must say, elliotberton, your wife is a smart lady, we Steeler fans have to stick together, it's an unwritten rule. And just out of curiosity, who do you root for.

Well, good for you I actually lived across the street from Rec hall in West hall from 85-88 so watching every home matches was a mandatory. At the time Penn state was in the A10 and they were undefeated every year but lost in the first round 3 of the 4 years I was there in the NCAA. Back then, Penn state couldn't beat Nebraska either. West coast schools ruled then. Not until Penn State joined the Big 10 in 1991 and that was when they became good and won the first NCAA in 1999 and of course you know the rest of the story. I am just a fan, a long, long time bandwagon fan!

It seems to me that much of the commentary of the past week ought to have been on this thread, rather than the "News About" thread. Any objective observor of the PSU Women's Volleyball team has to feel concerned about the efflux of established, talented players from the program. It would be very helpful to have the coach's perspective on the situation; it feels like there is a story here.

There are some who questioned my wife's intelligence (she married me after all), but not for supporting the Steelers. Pretty successful franchise after all. My complaint is that she likes football more than volleyball.

Football or Volleyball " FOOTBALL " And I don't know if your familiar with the Steelers history, but when I became a fan, they were the dregs of the league, it wasn't until 1969 when they hired Chuck Knoll that they turned the corner to respectability, and now they seem to be headed back to dreg status, but no matter I am their fan and always will be, just like Penn State I am their fan and always will be.

Skylar Fields from Texas just entered the transfer portal. Would love to see Penn State pick up a big time outside/opp out of the portal to pick up the hitting load. IMO the pin hitting positions are still the biggest issue for PSU right now.

Former Penn State target Sophie Fischer, a member of the 2020 recruiting class, is reportedly in the transfer portal. She announced she is going to Georgia.
