Who does that leave in the portal: Hord, Blossom, Parker? Has Emily Oerther announced anything? I heard that Emily Oerther was offered by Mississippi State.

Regarding the speculation of why so many players left after this past season: My guess is that none of the Covid seniors were offered a scholarship for a 5th year. I say this because if anyone should have been re-signed, Hord was that player. If true, I wonder if that led Russ to early retirement (ie, before his contract ended)?

I think it's natural to speculate, and there are certainly lots of possibilities: perhaps none of the players were offered fifth year scholarships; pershaps some were, and some weren't; perhaps all were, but for whatever reason or reasons, chose not to accept. We'll never really know. And at the risk of appearing incurious (or dismissive of those who wish to speculate -- which I'm not) I can only say that when players want to move on, so do I. I wish them all well. On to the next.

Blossom finished her Penn State career with 3,271 assists and was named an AVCA All-American her sophomore season in 2019.

I guess it's safe to assume Gabby was not impressed with KSC's recent promotion.

I figure Blossom had already made up her mind she was going to San Diego (or somewhere other than Penn State) for her final season before KSC was promoted, considering this was announced the same day and classes are starting around the country.

I guess it's safe to assume Gabby was not impressed with KSC's recent promotion. I find reason to disagree with the narrative that all these players were escaping some sinking ship and headed to programs where they could finally compete for national championships. Each of their destinations so far appear to be more personally motivated than only about volleyball. Hampton: South Carolina, AC Fitzpatrick: Florida, Oerther: Mississippi? These are all schools closer to “home” as they either finish or continue their college careers and move onto professional ones. And Blossom to San Diego would seem to be for reasons other than championship volleyball. Observationally, it seems like these were collective decisions. Rose would have notified them of his retirement. Covid eligibility rules changed the game. And once one member of this seemingly close-knit team decided to move on, it certainly could have snow-balled from there. But I don’t see any evidence that this is any kind of referendum on KSC.

Congrats, Gabby. Hear the weather is great!
The 'other' volleyball site was mentioning SD last week, so this had been in the works.
That leaves Hord? The other site had a lot of B1G fans from multiple teams mentioning her, hoping she'd choose them. Makes me wonder if she was waiting to see how things shake out.

Perhaps not, but the coaching selection didn't dissuade Gabby from leaving either. Let's see if Kaitlyn and/or Jonni are enticed to return.

Sorry to see you go, Gabby, you wore my lucky #13, every football, and baseball jersey I had was with that number. Good luck and as traveler said the weather is great.

Markley looks great in the video. She was getting a little too far under the ball on some of her hits. PSU staff can correct that. Future looks pretty bright to me.

So, I hope she's happy. I don't think this transfer shouts of "I want to go somewhere to win a National Championship." (Not that Gabby claimed that was her reason).
