I have another analysis of Penn State's rotations at the end of the B1G season and heading into the playoffs that I will post on this thread soon.
But, I have another rules question precipitated by the Wisconsin match. For each of the first three sets PSU's Ro 1, with Bryanna serving, served first for the Lions and served to Wisky's Ro 5. From there you get 6 serves 4, 5 serves 3, 4 serves 2, 3 serves 1, and 2 serves 6.
But Coach Rose switched up at the start of set 4 when Serena Gray and Ro 5 served first for Penn State to Wisconsin's Ro 5. That produced 4 serves 4, 3 serves 3, 2 serves 2, 1 serves 1, and 6 serves 6. One result of this change was that it altered the middle blocker matchups. In the first three sets Gray was matched against Rettke for 5 of their 6 rotations in the front row. But in the fourth set Hord was matched against Rettke for 5 of their 6 rotations in the front row.
Not letting any moss grow under his feet Coach Sheffield changed his lineup for set 5 by switching from Clark as his opening server to Hilley. Coach Rose countered by leading of with Jenna Hampton serving. That resulted in some more shifting but still left Hord matched with Rettke.
So here is my question. Each team must submit their lineups to the officials no later than 30 seconds before the start of each set. Is there any way that either team knows the starting lineup of the other before they submit theirs?

The B1G season has ended and the results by rotation for the conference matches are complete. So what rotations have been the most successful?
If Penn State really needs a point on serve, which rotation has the best shot? The answer is rotation 1 with Bryanna Weiskercher serving. Bryanna has a 47.5% success rate when serving, which is the best on the team.
It the team needs the point when receiving serve, then the best shot comes with rotation 3. That rotation has scored 68.6% of the time when receiving serve.
Who do you not want serving? That would be rotations 2 and 4 with Kendall, Jonni, or Gabby serving as they have won less than 40% of the time.
Who do you not want receiving? Rotation 2 is the only rotation that has won fewer than 60% of the points when receiving serve.
Here is a listing of the rotations:
Rotation Back Row Front Row
1 Weiskercher, White, Leath Reed, Gray, Parker 2 White, Leath, Parker Weiskercher, Reed, Gray
3 Leath, Parker, White Hord, Weiskercher, Reed
4 Parker/Blossom, White, Hampton Leath, Hord, Weiskercher
5 Gray/White, Hampton, Weiskercher Parker, Leath, Hord
6 Hampton, Weiskercher, White Gray, Parker, Leath
Results:
Winning Percentage Points Played Serving Receiving Total
Ro 1 612 47.5 65.3 55.6
Ro 2 503 39.7 58.0 49.5
Ro 3 458 43.5 68.6 55.0
Ro 4 469 39.2 63.4 50.7
Ro 5 513 42.1 67.4 53.6
Ro 6 569 43.2 66.7 54.0
While the final two matches went against the overall trend, the team ended up the B1G season with stats that show them holding serve at a decreasing rate each set
Points Won When Serving
Set 1 - 49.2%
Set 2 - 42.2%
Set 3 - 40.0%
Set 4 - 38.5%
Set 5 - 37.1%
And finally, here are the winning percentages by server for the B1G season :

Weiskercher 158 176 47.5%
Leath 78 94 45.3%

Parker 58 79 42.3%
White 97 142 40.6%

Thanks for the information!! It's always fun to see who's good where and which rotations/players are the best. Granted, it's a small sample size, but I was surprised that Cathey was the highest of the subs in the serving.
