Number 1 Nolf against 5-ranked Alex Pantaleo: All the action was in the first period. Nolf got a quick takedown and a 4-point near fall. He was set to get a major when Pantaleo got a late takedown. Final score was 9-2, just short. Michigan up 11-6. After intermission, the heavier guys need to set things right.

These announcers (and I like Chertow as a wrestler) go for extended periods of time not talking at all about the match, but rather about the history of a particular move, or stories about a wrestler from the past. All interesting but . . . . the match?

At 165, 1-ranked Vincenzo Joseph goes against 7-ranked Logan Massa. Joseph wins at end of sudden victory OT period, 4-2. BTN picked Joseph as the match's outstanding wrestler.
At 174, 1-ranked Mark Hall goes against 3-ranked Myles Amine. Hall wins with late 3rd period takedown, 3-3. PSU pulls ahead 12-11 on the team score.
At 184, 7-ranked Shakur Rasheed against Jelani Embree. Rasheed wins a tough match 5-3. Embree was "strong like bull." A tough return from injury match, but Myles Martin next week will present even more of a challenge.
At 197 1-ranked Bo Nickal against Jackson Striggow. Bo pins (his 53rd) at 5:50. PSU up 21-11.
At 285 3-ranked Anthony Cassar against 7-ranked Mason Parris . Cassar wins 19-8 for a major decision. Cassar is really looking good.
PSU wins 25-11.
I'll post the write-up when it's available.

I have Verkleeren fatigue. I just don't understand the decisions he makes.

I have Verkleeren fatigue. I just don't understand the decisions he makes. Verkleeren was thrown into this match late when Berge was scratched for unknown reasons. Cael indicated that Jared, told Friday afternoon that he would be wrestling that night, had to cut weight fast. That may account for his third period burn out.

In case you guys haven't figured it out, I'm not exactly a wrestling superfan, certainly not an expert. I just post this stuff for those who might be interested in a passing way. If I had to pick a theme song for this endeavor, I'd probably go with Billy Idol's "Dancing with Myself." So, if you guys know something there's no need to play Secret Squirrel.

It's Wednesday, and GOPSUSPORTS did its look-ahead at the coming weekend's match. This is another big one in the B1G, at Ohio State (in my opinion a center of evil in the B1G). Lots of ranked wrestlers on both teams. As with Michigan, OSU appears to have the advantage at the lower weights. At the upper weights Shakur Rasheed will challenge top-ranked Myles Martin at 184-lbs. Maybe Bo Nickal can give him some tips. And speaking of Bo Nickal, he faces Number 2-ranked Kollin Moore at 197-lbs. Maybe Anthony Cassar can give Bo some tips. The match is on the BTN at 8:30 PM EST on Friday. Here's the GOPSUSPORTS write-up: gopsusports.com/news/2019/2/6/wrestling-the-preview-penn-state-visits-ohio-state-for-b1g-road-dual.aspx

There is a lot of speculation that RBY, Shak and Berge will not wrestle.
Personally, I would be surprised to see RBY, but I think we will see Shak and Berge.

Thanks for the link Nyline, good articles that address all the questions that GOPSUSPORTS can't--not that Coach Sanderson is going to unequivocally answer some questions (nor should he).

No Shakur Rashid, no Berge, RBY is going against Number 6 Luke Pletcher. Starting at 133. RBY wins in overtime. He is back. Team score only 2-0 because of unsportsmanlike conduct--threw head gear.

Number 2 McKenna vs Number 6 Nick Lee. Nick Lee after being down 5-2 comes back to win 7-6. Lee outsmarted and out endured McKenna. Incredible effort. PSU up 5-0.
