I just watched the 125- and 133-lb matches between OSU and Michigan--they were on BTN Friday night. PSU will be luck to be down 6-0 after the first two matches against Michigan. Michigan's Stevan Mcic, ranked number 1 at 133, is a beast. At 141, OSU has number 2 ranked Joey McKenna who is putting a whuppin' on Michigan's number 5 ranked Kanen Storr. McKenna gets at 3rd period tech fall. At 149, OSU has 3-ranked Micah Jordan facing unranked Malik Amine--Jordan win 17-4. After 4, OSU up 9-7. At 157, 11-ranked Alec Pantaleo from Michigan vs 7-ranked Ke-Shawn Hayes. Pantaleo wins 3-2, Michigan up 10-9. One sixty five brings OSU's unranked Kaleb Romero against 7-ranked Logan Massa from Michigan. Massa wins 6-2 over a stalling Romero. Michigan up 13-9. Michigan's 3rd-ranked Miles Amine at 174 goes against OSU's 20th ranked Ethan Smith. Amine wins 3-2 with a late takedown. Michigan up 16-9. OSU comes back at 184 with top-ranked Myles Martin against Michigan's Michigan's unranked J.T. Correll. Martin up 13-4 after 1st period. 18-7 after 2nd period. Martin gets Tech Fall. Michigan clings to 16-14 lead. OSU's 2nd-ranked Kollin Moore hopes to get OSU the lead against Michigan's unranked Jackson Striggow. Moore wins 12-5, but misses major decision. OSU takes lead 17-16. At 285, OSU's 17-ranked Chase Singletary against Michigan's 7-ranked Mason Parris. Parris wins 5-3 and Michigan beats Number 2-ranked OSU 19-17. Not sure who the announcers are, but one of them is a shameless OSU homer. PSU will have some tough matches against these teams. Nick Lee could be a key to victory, but OSU's McKenna is a machine. Thank goodness we don''t have to wrestle both of them at the same time.

The match against Indian started at 184-lbs and Franny Bisono lost in a decision. Bo Nickal followed at 197-lbs and got a pin in under a minute--it was beautiful. Anthony Cassar got a decision at 285, he was headed toward a major, but had a lapse late in the third period and surrendered a takedown. BIG NEWS!!! Devin Schnupp won his match at 125. PSU had to forfeit at 133 because of Roman Bravo Young's injury. So, at intermission PSU leads a close one 12-9 (the forfeit was worth 6 points for the Hoosiers).
More to come after the the last five matches.

PSU swept the last five matches against Indiana. Nick Lee earned a major decision at 141-lbs. Jared Veerkleeren got a 6-4 decision at 149-lbs, he went 2-0 subbing for Brady Berge. Jason Nolf got his 56th career pin in the first period of his match and Vincenzo Joseph followed-up with a first period pin in his 165-lb match. Mark Hall ended the match with a major decision, helping PSU to a 35-9 victory. Indiana only won one match--Michigan might be a bit more of a challenge.
The match was Indian's second in its new wrestling venue--it's pretty nice.
I'll post the GOPSUSPORTS write-up when it's available.

Cael remains an excellent judge of talent with a great recruiting team of assistants. Even when they give some of their starters a match off they still cruise to victory.

Indiana had a pretty weak team. I hope everyone is rested up for the next two Fridays. It's going to be intense. I don't see wrestlers like Nickal or Nolf in the pipeline, but I don't follow too closely.

Aaron Brooks, who was a three-time Fargo, N.D., national champion, and who just won the men’s freestyle 174-pound title at the 21st Dave Schultz Memorial International at the Olympic Training Center, with a pin in the semifinals and a 13-0 technical win over New York Athletic Club’s Nathan Jackson in the title match, was FloWrestling's #14 pound-for-pound wrestler for the 2018-2019 class. He has spent this season at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs (he was only 17 when he started there), and is considered by many to be an elite recruit.

I can remember when Iowa fans insisted that Penn State Wrestling would come back to earth after Ruth and Taylor graduate. I guess they still haven't graduated.

Thanks for the posts guys. I finally skipped like a stone across the lake of articles about wrestling recruiting. The future looks great and it was an uncharacteristic mistake (yeah, you're supposed to laugh here) on my part to suggest that replacements aren't in the pipeline.

GOPSUSPORTS did their Wednesday thing once again and put out a look at the coming match against Michigan. The Wolverines are one of three undefeated B1G teams and ranked 5th--I'm surprised their ranking didn't improve after last week's victory over the Number 2-ranked Buckeyes. They have seven ranked wrestlers compared to PSU's nine, but I'm not sure of the status of PSU's Shakur Rasheed and Roman Bravo Young. Michigan looks dominant at the lower weights whereas PSU should dominate from 157-lbs up. The match may be determined by who can get extra team points. It's live on the BTN at 7:00 PM EST on Friday, 1 February. Here's the link: gopsusports.com/news/2019/1/30/wrestling-the-preview-no-1-penn-state-hosts-no-5-michigan-in-2019-bjc-dual.aspx .

Here we go. After two matches, PSU down 8-0--1-ranked Micic got a Tech Fall. RBY is injured. 7-ranked Nick Lee is an early hero--defeating 5-ranked Kanin Storr. Jared Verkleeren and Malik Amine are having a very competitive match. Amine wins 7-5, Michigan up 11-3 with Nolf coming up. This is going pretty much as I expected. Here's hoping the next six guys are bringing the hammer.
On the good news front, we got the BTN announcing pair that I like: Shane Sparks and Ken Chertow.
